Enjoyable but ends abruptly

8/10 is my rating. This is a 2020 South Korean comedy romance fantasy drama with 10, 15 minute episodes.

First I provide a synopsis then review

Synopsis

Sun Nyeo (Kim Do Yeon) leads a typical teenage life but is annoyed that she bears a striking resemblance to a comic book character from a series that was popular a decade before. Not annoyed enough though that she doesn’t occasionally read the lines out loud. One time, as she reads the lines out loud, it causes the male romantic lead from the book, Chun Nam Wook, (Kim Min Kyu) to “Pop Out” from the comic book into the real world.
Even with a decades old hair style and fashion sense Nam Wook Is a heart throb. Seeing the object of his affections Nam Wook, Sun Nyeo’s he tries to continue their relationship where it left off calling her by a cheesy knickname and spotting equally cheesy one liners aimed at Sun Nyeo’s heart. It’s not long before Nam Wook understands that this Sun Nyeo is not the girl he left in the comic book. Will icy cool Sun Yeo fall for this unlikely Romeo?

Review
As a smile coming of age romantic comedy it fits the bill if you want something short, predictable and with a happy enough ending. Well acted with compelling characters.

*Spoilers. My biggest issue with this is it ends abruptly. He predictably has to return to the book and they have a tearful separation. He, also somewhat predictably, returns to the real world (how?) with some new character we only catch a glimpse of THE END. What? Do not leave me on a cliff hanger unless there are clear plans for another season. I liked it and was enjoying it but it felt like there was a power outage it ended so abruptly. If you like things neatly wrapped up in the end as I do then this is not for you. Maybe wait and see if they do another season. If you are ok with nebulous ending where you have to fill in a bunch of blanks then this may be one for you as I found the story and all the characters believable and enjoyable.
