Yes, the drama is fast paced with lot of mind-blowing twists, making a romance difficult to stand. So, in this strange way, the romance is better during a rewatch. Even plot points are difficult to digest. Audience could when the drama was airing (with a full week to think).
Best review I could read about this drama. (is it really a drama or just a netflix product?) Few comedy scenes here and there, but it was empty. You did well to speak about the bad times about changes of tone. Even with just 8 episodes, it was a pain to finish. Hamburger fast food drama.
Funny comedy scenes here and there but the drama is empty. Difficult to end, as I could drop that any time from Episode 3. It's like a drama for nothing. No depth, just a kind of western-like content. Nothing against actors, they did their best, but with such a script, they can't do miracles. Also, kudos to the director who made an amazing job.
Why does FL suddenly fall for ML and confess so quickly? And how are they already dating in the same episode?…

In the police station scene, Kang Chul pushes her to reveal her feelings while he pretends to be angry (well, he's angry, but even if he doesn't manipulate her consciously, he does everything to push her to confess, his last statement are "why didn't you keep living instead of coming back here", etc, in truth he knows the answer but want to hear it from her).
Kang Chul may seems a gentleman, but in truth, he's often rude (using a kind of psychological pressure on her in the prison visiting room, so she confess the truth about the manhwa). And just, damn-it, shoots her in the heart? This guy has a too strong will, and what he wants often matter more than what others want.
So which is closer to the manga source?This Jdrama adaptation?The Kdrama?Or the new anime adaptation?
The jdrama is close to the manga about the story. (not exactly the same though) And it takes the exact opposite about aesthetic, with a colorful universe full of details, instead of the raw naked black&white of the manga. AND, I think they made the best choice. Also the jdrama is filmed like it was an anime, with insane nervous breakdowns. it's awesome.
The kdrama is very disappointing once you watched the jdrama, even destroying some games or proposing new ones without any real strategy possible. However, as a standalone, I found that still enjoyable, with one new great idea about making it a TV show and a great antagonist (alas, the protagonist lack charisma).
I don't want to watch the anim, production is too cheap, I feel that useless, as I've read the manga and rewatched the jdrama countless times.
Contrary to what most commenters seem to think to me Joo Da-hae was not a compelling or interesting character…
A bit of different emotions would have been welcome, mostly because it would help to for the actress to express more. She often has the same cold face. I rec you "Miss Ripley" with an ambitious woman of the same kind, but with more inner contradictions. Also, it's an acting feast, the best role of Lee Dae Hae. And it's from a true story. Don't rely on the MDL rating. It seems people had difficulty to accept that the female lead is quite bad, an anti-heroine. But now people catch a bit better this kind of story, as Dear X has a better rating here, while the character is worst than the one of Miss Ripley.
