Wait!!! ... I was speaking about that with my wife, and she said me something about a detail. And you know, when a detail doesn't fit with the rest, I get curious. And yes. So I would like to ask you... While Mu Deok says "he needs two of you to open his magic door"... I find out later that finally... one was enough. And all this remains on my mind, you know? There's something wrong with that. I thought about it all night. Quite impossible. It's as if the culprit wanted to cover his tracks. https://styles.redditmedia.com/t5_2twu7/styles/communityIcon_i27a9glozoz41.jpg
So you are saying you like it? lately all the dramas you've comment about are nahyers for you lol
What??? no no no. Yumi cells 2 is genious. Eve is enough good as makjang. Jinxed At First is a bit unbalanced but I'm hooked enough. Of course "why her" is "why this crap" and angrily dropped, and "link eat kill" is forgotten.
I'm used to Hong scripts and know how they work. They always create a very good starting situation. In short, the two leads will have to work together because they have no choice. And it's not easy to do in a drama like "Alchemy of souls". Because to do this, it's also related to other plots (the "secte", the birth of Jang uk). Every time, they create that in episode 1. And in the masterpiece episode 1 of "master sun", they create that in < 20 minutes!!! So of course, it's disapointing to need two full episodes here. 2h20.
And I'm not 100% happy, look at my comments!! Background music are killing this drama!! Insane. How someone in the world could think this bloody noise could work?!! It makes me mad. Sometimes I just shut off the sound. Silence, just I read subtitles so it's painful.
Episode 2 is convincing, and even... last scenes of the episode are fully convincing!!! High stakes, dramatic situation. A good way to lead to that, with the different refusals or impossibilities, so it makes the situation is unavoidable. What is the usual talent of Hong sisters.
I started Episode 2. For now it's much better. But the background music are such a pain!!! Kind of noise that are in disney/spielberg movies. Insufferable. A drill in the ears!!
It's not the editing. Editing is the choice of shots in a scene once the cam got the images. What you say is related…
Not so complex, but people often make the confusion about what the director do or the screenwriter. It's because they are used to read novels. But a screenplay isn't a novel, it's a technical document that is really: all you see on the screen and in which order. It's like... once people have that, they don't need to think anymore about that, and just focus about how to render it in the best way. So it's very useful. You can see in BTS when they shoot dramas. Everybody have the script. And they follow it carefully. All this work is already done! No need to mess around the way the story is told. Their job are already so complicated.
Only thing the screenplay don't do is to indicate shots. What is called "directing from the script", something that people dislike a lot in cinema industry. So you don't have things like "the camera moves slowly from a tree to the protagonist, who's face is contracted with anger". It's too wordy, and don't give any freedom to the director or actors.
Instead, it's just said as a short description (needs to be x5 more concise than a novel). Like: "next to a tree, protagonist becomes angry". Here there is still a suggestion of shot. What is "cinematic order", the way the words are in a description. I could say "protagonist gets angry next to a tree" for example. But it makes think the reader to see first the protagonist then the tree. The director is free to choose the cinematic order from the screenplay or do what he thinks is the best.
don't be too attached to webtoon endgames, you guys.. that's how I got clowned in Nevertheless *traumas*screenwriters…
I hope they do. Well, I'm quite sure because I already made some comparisons, and there are so much changes. But until now, the global plotline is the same.
This is complete off the rails version of a historical kdrama, Avatar Waterbender edition. Since freed of the…
Hey, you complain here, lol! Because I complain the same way, and in short we have quite the same opinion. Except about CGI... this kind of thing doesn't really impress me. Spectacle for spectacle.

I explain more. In a kdrama, the roles are well separated and the work of the scriptwriter very respected. Especially famous scriptwriters like the Hong sisters. Their work is sacred! The screenplay contains precisely the order of the scenes, what happens in them and the dialogues. Everything you see on the screen comes from there. Even a short flashback during a scene is indicated in the screenplay. It's a document that is a real specification for the production. So when you watch the drama and read the screenplay at the same time, you see that everything is exactly the same, with very few exceptions.
When the director shoots a scene, he chooses the shots, the angles, how he shows. With several rushes for each action/visual. With that, the editor edits the scene by choosing among the rushes. So the editing is essentially visual, to support the story, but within a scene only. And the scenes change very often (the rule being: one scene = same place, same time). A scene is therefore different from a situation (which can cover several scenes). Then, it's a question of terminology, because some use "sequence" for a scene, and "scene" for a situation.
Exceptionally, since the director has the last word, he can change something related to a scene order, but in a very limited scope. This is so rare that I can note the few times it happens.
Since kdrama screenplays are very hard to find, I haven't found any from Hong. But after looking at your list, since you watched the drama W, I can give you an example: Go to my comment of "May 29, 2022 at 11:22 am": https://bitchesoverdramas.com/2022/05/27/w-two-worlds-ep-11-rewatch-sat-may-28/#comments Here, the initial order of this situation did not allow to use a song. Main reason why the director*** made the change, in my opinion. Whenever there is a difference between the screenplay and the drama, I try to understand the director's point of view. As you can see, even here the change is minor. It impacts the scene order very little, and it doesn't change the situation. ***: in this example it could be as well the guy doing the editing.
I'm a bit late to post the examples of the following episodes, but there are some incredible and complex scene orders. Of course, kept as they are on the screen. I mostly post scenes with a little change in it, so on the whole drama it's not much.
Comment of "May 29, 2022 at 11:24 am": Here the change is that the director removed a scene (when the heroine goes to the bathroom). Most of the time, the director does this when he makes a change, he deletes a scene here or there, to make the length of the episode fit better. Even rarer times, he adds a detail to a scene. Often a line of dialogue or something from an actor.
Only thing I really liked are the two main actors and the funny situation about their meeting.
Anything else, it's like coming from a fan-fiction. I've the feeling to have watched that tons of time. Even when I never watched any chinese drama of this style (I tried and quickly gave up). Just some other movies "tiger and dragon" or many others fantasy. Here is a mix of a bit everything we know already.
The magical things looks like show off, and rather boring. It's like in a video game when the boss starts its 30sec animation attack, and you have to wait it ends. Same about the loooong fighting scene on the ice.
This drama is so noisy, the background musics are painful.
The editing is all over the place, there are parts where I wondered if it'll be a reverse-harem comedy, then they…
It's not the editing. Editing is the choice of shots in a scene once the cam got the images. What you say is related to the screenplay. It's rather the scene order and the dispatch of differents locations/characters/events. "All over the place", about that, I got a feeling too. It was like we get things a bit randomly. Because there are already many differents characters and situations whose links are difficult to catch. I can't say it's messy, but I would have difficulties to pick-up some informations. Maybe I should rewatch to check that more, but don't have the patience.

First time I'm disapointed in a first episode from hers.

The music was painful yeah.
