I know how you feel. As a health care worker watching the unrealistic Medical drama .......
All TV stories in the world are unrealistics from a professional point of view, about any subject, medical, hightech, planes, etc etc. Script emphaze first with the twists. If the script is about something realistic, it's great, but there is no more plot-twist, suspens or anything like that. Let's say, a documentary-like story, slow pace, low intensity. But it can also be very entairtening and instructive when it's well done. Things like that need a very deep investigation, or a writer than already know the subject, or worked into that (let's say Hajime No Ippo manga, because mangaka is boxer trainer). Screewriters for TV are not like that, Plus they need to work fast, and can't spend too many times on investigation (before to write a single line of script). And anyway, TV story need to hook spectators, twists are needed, no matter the realism. The only thing they can do is "it can't be real, but let's try to give the illusion it could be". Here, in the plane cockpit scene, it's what they do. ML dialog line about "War pilots did that". Shoot on the electronic device and wire, making tech visualisable. Consider than in any high number of movies or series, you don't get even this "realistic-like" explantion or rendering. So, here, I think the scriptwriter make a good job. Write breathless twist, make feel it could be possible for non-professional viewer, at least don't show it out the blue, even if it can be "pulled by the hairs".
The opening scene: some dude fixing the windscreen and electrical system of an airplane while calling some other…
I will tell a sad real story. It was about testing cockpit of french TGV (high speed train). For testing, they trow chicken, as the train run at high speed. Chicken are just deep-frozen but should not be used like that. Because of a mistake, the guy trowing the chicken didn't unfrozen the chicken. As a result, the frozen chicken perforate the cockpit, and the pilot died.
Yes I definitely agree. How is it only the king recognizes her face and not even her brother or On Dal ?
Shaman disguise + Veil + Far (5 meters or more) + No one take attention or expect to see a queen clone, dead one and forgetten since 10 years. Only the king is close enough to see her (less than 2 meters) and see a bit better trough the veil transparency. I even don't know if the shaman performing dance have to wear a veil (it need to look into a history book, if there is any detail about that, and I suppose not). So I suppose the script say : these women wear a veil. Of course, because the scriptwriter or director thinked about the problem, and don't want all people recognize her at this point of the story. If not, why to make dancers wear a veil ? (I could add there is luck here, because it's also a good trick for deguisment, so two reasons for put veils into this scene) And look more at the scene, there is an event on purpose. The king is Out the dance stage. Then get angry, then go on the dance stage. So, the scene can reach the goal, he see a woman like his dead queen. He even have more reason to recognize her, because, again, and on purpose, the scene make him have a flashback just before, and we understand he's still obseded by her. As much chance to see her (even if it's not her, because it's what happens sometimes when people are obseded by someone).
You’ve never seen Scarlet Heart?! You should check it out. He plays the third prince. It’s how him an Nam…
Moon lovers, yeah I forgot he was into this. Well, Lee Jung Ki strike too much, you end to forget others actors. Page Turner is 3 episodes. A mini-drama I liked very much.
I guess Ondal and the prince not recognizing pyeonggang was mainly because Ondal only had a brief encounter with…
About the cut of the end scene: it proves that it is a continuous story with the essential, which does not fill time with useless scenes. In some others dramas, the time is clocked first and a cliffhanger is provided, episode by episode. But if the events of the story happen too fast, then the episode must be filled with useless (and often boring) things. In a continuous story, it is possible to place cliffhangers, but without cheating with the rhythm of the drama, or very little (just 1 or 2 minutes to adjust the duration of the episode). So it's hazardous, and placing a cliffhanger sometimes requires cheating a little, using a scene that is not very remarkable and turning it into a cliffhanger, or moving a scene forward and then flashing back to the next episode. On some episodes, even this can't be done, so it's better to stop the episode. This means that the current episode and the beginning of the next one have no fill scenes, and the content is dense. Concerning ratings, it is still penalizing, because the TV channel needs to catch the viewers, and cliffhanger is one of the proven methods. The spectators are so used to it that when it's not there, they notice it, just like you did.
Unpopular opinion: I'm not convinced he can carry a whole drama as the main lead.....I would like to be proved…
He already did, in a wonderfull story : Page Turner (with Kim So Hyun too). But I feel what you say. As I was watching trailers, I wasn't sure he could be up to the task. After 2 episodes, I'm convainced it's good. He adapted well to the character as well as the historical context.
After watching 2 Episodes the Positives I found was :- Expensive production, nice locations , good looking costumes…
Some people complain about the plot is too fast paced, and you because it's too draggy. I don't complain because the slower scenes was very enjoyable, and I like fast paced dramas. I'm really lucky here ! It fall right in my shoes. About the 5 first minutes. It's something you get into well construted storys big one very moving. Empress Ki, Giant. Even James Cameron's Titanic ! Most of the time this is used, it's among the best dramas. It means the scriptwriter as enough confidence in the quality of the story, so you enjoy what you see each moment. Also, this first scene is not necessarly the end of the drama. - Im watching Penthouse and into this, this first scene come at episode 4 into the drama. And the effect is very powerful, what happenned reinforce the twist. - Another example : While you were sleeping. Here the first scene come at the end of episode one, in a very moving and powerful way too. So, I say that for reassure you, I don't think it will spoil you the drama, and there is good chance it's enhance it.
This drama is turning out better of what I expected. Shimmering and warm directing, simple and innocent love encounter, looking very natural and touching, comedy scenes not only funny but also moving. Some surprising harsh twists (blind mother flashback). Super cute little white dog.
Actor Ji Soo don't disapoint here. I was surprised. Of course, he was a nice actor into previous drama, but it's first time I see him into historical one.
Most extreme mukbang youtubers couldn't eat all that ! :-)

I'm IN without any reservation.
Most addictive drama I watched this year.
She use a combat style based on dexterity.
After that, I have great confidence about his work.
But I feel what you say.
