On I Feel You Linger in the Air Aug 27, 2023
I know this sounds like very weird comparisons but I'm getting so much Pride & Prejudice/Atonement vibes from this series so far. Something about the saturated greens of the series coloring, the cinematography... every shot of this drama is so artistic 😭 The cinematography is just gorgeous, it totally screams BUDGET and INVESTMENT! The beautiful cinematography makes the series feels more like a Netflix-level budgeted miniseries (think Girl From Nowhere, ITSAY, Bad Genius The Series) than your average BL series or a one31/CH3/CH7 Lakorn. Even though IFYLITA seems to be receiving quite well reception locally, I have a feeling it's going to become the most underrated bl gem of 2023 in the bl-sphere internationally since it's being released in a month full of competitive BL series all over the whole (August such a packed month y'all)... But all in all, once can just feel the amount of sincerity and homework put into IFYLITA , there's just such a delicacy to the production that can't really be put into words.

I really like that detail where they had Jom having a premonitious dream about future him and Jom + present Jom. I think this small detail is so neat considering it happening at the same time present Jom also saw such vision before crashing his car and transported himself back to 1927. It also justifies Khun Yai's instant attraction and interest in Jom. Khun Yai is so Mr. Darcy-coded I love him so much!

king the land is truly one of the most stress-free dramas i've ever watched. they keep avoiding angst and finding most innovative and lightest way to deal with problems. ep 15 preview showing hwa ran getting a slap from her husband for bribing his mistress to leave her husband to prevent her own divorce is really keeping me sane from any actual fears of this show breaking up gu won/sarang uusing such a cliche trope/out of character reason for them lmao

From the ep15 preview Won's sister says she gave some money (probably to Sa-rang) and left, in my opinion she…
it's more likely hwaran gave money to her husband's mistress which is why he slapped her at the beginning of that scene

I want to share this comment I saw on Reddit that describes exactly my sentiments about the latest episode. OP puts into words so well about how the show hits very close to home for many folks working in the service industry or corporate world at large. link: https://www.reddit.com/r/KDRAMA/comments/15cm1kt/comment/ju04mjm/

"The contrast this show has drawn up between Won and Hwaran's management philosophies as they battle it out has added a new level of investment for me in these last few episodes. I'm sorry for the rant-ish comment but I haven't been able to stop thinking about this.

Hwaran's ideas about how King Group should develop hits so close to home ie. the real world. She >! schmoozes politicians and is ready to throw her best employee (one that she's personally very impressed by and has personally promoted) under the bus to momentarily appease him. Her ideas for survival all include cutting down employee numbers, employee benefits (that shuttle we saw!), saving money to increase profits. !< It's so timely as we've seen multiple big companies in the real world announce record breaking profits despite inflation, high cost of living etc. When she's in a crunch she barks orders for profits to increase - no real plan or strategy, you're fired if you can't.

We've reached a point in the real world where companies are just expected to yield exponential profits for shareholders, and that's just not possible so it's always the workers and their conditions who get thrown under the bus. Because just having a steady, strong business doesn't seem to be enough, the ones at the top have to get richer and richer.

Whereas Won. Our beloved Won-ie genuinely cares about people who don't have the power and privilege he has. He looks to expand instead of cutting down. He listens to his employees' ideas and feedback. He understands King Group is only the legacy it is today from the efforts of their hardworking employees. The high standards, and top tier service they pride themselves on? All down to the employees. He says so himself he did nothing, he can't take credit for any of it.

Hwaran's King Group will be one people hate to work in. They work hard now but when they realise they get no real incentive they'll do the bare minimum, the quality will inevitably drop. And Won sees that relationship so clearly, he knows that the employees make the company what it is.

So many people criticise Won for his lack of interest in personal gain and profit. The politician tells him it's clear >! he doesn't have what it takes to to be a business man !< . Yuri tells him that >! he could have all of King Group if he chooses her, !< and he we see it doesn't move him in the slightest. And I HATE that in the real world, perhaps someone like Won would get absolutely trampled on.

Maybe in another world Won could be happiest walking away from King Group and living a much simpler life, but at least in this show if not real life, I really want someone who wants to make a real difference to succeed for once. Fighting, Won-ie!!!!"

Does anyone think that the paparazzi thing will create a noble idiot moment or should we faith in Gu Won and believe…
they just posted a preview of ep 14, the first thing won and sarang do after reading the news is run to each other, guwon says sorry, sarang says he shouldn't say sorry because they didn't do anything wrong. It's safe to say King The Land are playing and twisting all the angsty cliches to give us the healthiest and most green flag kdrama couple.

GW: Sorry, because of me
SR: We didn't do anything wrong
GW: Ofc we didn't
SR: If we're not wrong then why are we saying sorry
GW: You're worried for me this time?
SR: Of course! You're the person I love the most

Man this drama is a solid 9.0 and MDL current rating is ridiculous (if i can be biased i'd give it a 10). Be My Favorite is a prime example of how to adapt a novel with a good premise but had subpar execution in writing to create an adapted series that's true to the spirit of the novel, takes its interesting premise and elevated it into excellent drama writing. honestly it's such a well paced drama that no drama feels draggy, the character development are exquisite and the characters flaws are so lovable 😭 Be My Favorite definitely one of, if not, THE BEST BL series of 2023.

i like the writing of ktl a lot. the writers have made really good commentary about the hotel industry in specific but also in service industry in general. in between the silly flirts from guwon, we have sarang slowly revealing to guwon about the values she cherish in her service work. FL is very ENFP and very relatable to me. Yoona embodies the character well and her micro facial expressions as Sarang are absolutely brilliant. It's only episode 7 but the show really keeps up its reputation as a delicious dessert dish for every weekend evening. I can't wait to keep watching ML and FL overcome all their obstacles together, their teamwork scenes are the cutest.

Question for those that read the novel: do you prefer the og story or what the director has done with it?
it is soooooo much better. the og novel story was not as dynamic as the series. the director and screenwriters have truly elevated the novel and made it insanely better. there's much more depth in this series than the novel, especially w supporting characters like pearmai/max

King The Land is definitely better than most negative comments are making it out to be. Of course it's not a revolutionary, never before seen romcom and it has never promoted itself as such. It represented itself as a modern romcom full of cliches and it is delivering just what it has promised. It's a light hearted romcom that's more slice of life feel than WWWSK or Business Proposal. If you are looking for a direct knockoff/copy I would not recommend King The Land at all. King The Land doesn't have a fantasy-esque couple driven plot like See You In My 19th Life so if you want to watch something like that, this drama also isn't for you.

King The Land is its own slice of life romcom with nonsensical romcom scenes mixed with slice of life scene revealing struggles of working within the service sector industry. A lot of negative comments go on about how the humor fall flat, the writing is boring but guess what some of us viewers resonates strongly with the drama. Whether it's the toxic working environment, co-workers shaming someone with lower degree, FL trying not to draw attention to herself in order to fit in, an uncaring (ex)boyfriend so oblivious he doesn't even know he's hurting his partner... these heartfelt slice of life moments in King The Land are also things that resonate with viewers along with the nonsensical comedy and heart fluttering romantic scenes between FL and ML. Chemistry is also debatable thing because it's really subjective to different people. The general consensus from viewers right now is that they have good chemistry but you may not see it and that's also fine.

Regarding the genre and script choice from both leads, Yoona and Junho's previous dramas are both melodrama with heavy emotionally taxing plots and therefore they both happened to want to greet their fans in their next drama to be a fun, lighthearted drama. Junho himself was offered almost 100 scripts after The Red Sleeve (https://twitter.com/Rainie_mikevid/status/1541383399570477057?s=20) and yet he picked King The Land because he wanted to greet you with a bright & pleasant character (https://twitter.com/daisy_talks/status/1669225208186560515?s=20). Yoona also said she wanted to do a bright and pleasant drama next because her previous work was noir genre and she knew fans liked it when she plays bubbly and fun character so she picked this script. It's not reasonable to keep comparing it to their past works because the genre is so drastically different and if you're a fan of one of the actors but this genre of Kdrama is not your thing and I would suggest you to come back and watch it when you are in a better headspace or when you're in a mood for romcom instead of looking for replicas of Big Mouth or The Red Sleeve.

This drama isn't for someone who wants to use too much of their brain, solving, and unfolding any crazy mystery. The actors themselves said they hope viewers can watch this drama while eating something comfortably like the drama itself is a comfort food. I'm currently enjoying King The Land every Saturday and Sunday night with my mom because the drama has the right balance between the funny, romantic, heartfelt scenes and we don't have to think too much watching it.

Title Bad Genius
I watched the movie years ago and really liked it. Should i watch this drama?? I mean this is fully based on that…
You really should. The series bears a similar premise but they explored a lot of things the movie couldn't and the cheating arrangements are also VERY different from the movie so you won't feel like it's an exact copy of the movie. The show makes you easily hooked with each episodes as well because they have more plot going on.

The two characters lack of depth and background so far. Their interplay looks weird to me. Especially the guy…
it's not a noona romance, guwon is one year older than sarang (information from the prequel kakao webtoon that accompanies the drama)

anyone remember which episode/when krist or gawin said it'll start being less angsty/drama/happier for viewers? i can only recall when we were at ep 3 and krist said they don't even consider ep 3 to be "drama" because i'm terrified of the heart breaking angst we'll be going through the next few episodes 😭😭😭😭😭😭
