Douban raters try to be more objective so I totally get you for agreeing with douban raters more. But yea, as for me, it is hard since I often like “enjoyable trashes” to unwind. Each to their own.
As for recommendations, I like the mdl recommendation feature better too (the only reason I’m in this forum probbly) than douban 也喜欢 tab since some individuals have the ability to make obscure linkages that algorithm won’t. But thank you for sharing your way, the list might be interesting to check out.
I always feel that douban and mdl have its own pros and cons.
With douban, a fluff only drama bears no chance at all to get a good rating. Which is quite funny as that’s like, the majority of Chinese dramas being produced and watched. But imo dramas don’t always have to be heavy and preachy to be enjoyable, there’s absolutely no ‘best in its category’ kinda thing in douban. So I couldn’t use douban as a recommendation site at all, as a drama needs to fit a certain bill to even be considered decent.
With mdl, ratings are highly inflated, and an overwhelming number of the audience doesn’t put any thought to their rating, with most common rating being 10 if they enjoyed them, and like 6 if they don’t, lower if the ending is not to their liking. Thoughtful reviewers who don’t even like the dramas that much also tend to be generous and put down a 7.5. This makes it hard as the rating is like an Uber rating, where 3/4-5 stars seems to be the only functional scale, with me being mortally afraid if a 3 stars driver ever come around.
But overall mdl is still the more sensible one, just, I use 6-10, like it’s 1-5 stars.
