Title A Journey to Love Spoiler
RRY deludes herself in thinking that she does not form emotional bonds, but NZY reminded her that she does. Even…
We are clearly different viewers. I couldn't care less about godmother in spite of her gruesome death and I couldn't quite believe Ruyi's strong reaction, because they gave us nothing to back up that relationship but some words. Ah, well, they are not doing bad with other relationships in the drama. Yuanzhou's gang is the best example of show - don't tell concept

We see her in ep. 15. She sacrificed her self to save Ren.
That was my point, She showed up just to die.

She was mentioned in the earlier episodes when Ruyi struck a deal with Yuanzhou, she wanted him to get the godmother…
I must have missed it, thank you. Still, for how strong Ruyi's reaction was, they gave us nothing. A person she called mother got less screen time than some guard. I don't know, maybe it's just me, I like to know people our main characters carte about.

Ruyi's godmother, we hardly knew ye! XD

She wasn't mentioned once, let alone shown, and we should care, why? Some things must have been cut for time, otherwise it just doesn't make any sense. At least we saw princess' guard and knew she cared for him. It should be always show, don't tell.

What Shisan says about falling in love with someone being the death of him. That sounds pretty ominous. I hope…
If that's true, he deserves better. :(

The brothers and princess making romantic atmosphere with leaves for Ruyi and Yuanzhou made me laugh for 5 minutes straight. But all this humor and fluff make me nervous for the later part of the drama. The C-dramas love to emotionally destroy you in the end.

Ning Yuanzhou's brothers are ridiculous, Yu Shisan in particular. I am not loving the drama very much, but I will be heartbroken if they die. They are sooo close.

I started watching because I wanted something to replace SoKP and I thought Journey would be more to my usual taste. First couple of episodes disappointed me, though I liked how brutal the show is. Later episodes got better, but I just can't take Yuanzhou seriously, this smartest spy and assassin who is afraid of FL, lol. Whenever she approaches him (yes, aggressively), he turns into prepubescent boy. I appreciate some of the humor (Shisan is the best) and will continue to watch, but we'll see for how long.

Can someone explain to me why the prince’s mom was so against him marrying the fl’s sister as his official/main…
Because if prince becomes Emperor, she'd become Empress and have more power than his mother (Empress Dowager).

I re-watched the last episode and the little girl playing their daughter is super cute. Her "I am shocked" face when Xie Wei kicked her brother made me want to pinch her little cheeks. Super cute. :)

yes, this ending is super nice 🙂 many people drop Cdramas towards the end, when they know the end sucks, but…
I can't tell you how many Chinese dramas I dropped because the authors forced bad or open ending when it made no sense or even when the source material had a happy ending: I don't have to have a HE at all cost but the ending has to make sense (Nirvana in Fire comes to mind, it broke my heart but it was brilliant). SoKP made me so, so satisfied.

So, after 24 hours, the impressions have somewhat settled. I must first say that court drama and romance are not my usual fare, but I loved Story of Kunning Palace. The female lead didn't lose her brain and self-respect the moment she met either of the male characters, she was clever and always true to herself. Equally, the men were always true to their characters, which was why Xie Wei "won", he was NingNing's equal in every way. I enjoyed the supporting cast: from the princess (awesome friendship), Xie Wei's bodyguards and friends, the Yans to the villains I loved to hate. I loved drama's flow and there were no fillers that would make me fast forward which I often do in Chinese dramas. The entire cast were easy on the eyes which was a plus. The flaws include dramatic, strong and overused back-lighting and filters as well as soundtrack which interfered with the dialogue. But, in the end, I could live with these flaws in the face of great writing and acting. The endings of Chinese dramas often disappoint, but SoKP had deeply satisfying ending and made me truly happy. Hopefully, others learn from it.

Before giving director any new project, make a lights committee which will dispense the lights like candy to a kid with a sweet tooth - occasionally. He's driving me crazy.

Did I say before that I like Xie Wei's bodyguards? Because I do. Loyal and hilarious.

Who will destroy this Xue Shu witch already? I know she used the only option she had, but the reason why it was her only option were her games for her family. I am glad the preview showed the princess at least got one bitch slap in. We know from the opening that the princess will be all right, but still... The Emperor can die already, he has a brother and a baby to succeed him.
