I did write some minimal unimportant spoilers of what happens in the novel, so for the persons who didn`t watch…
I am someone who is already reading the novel, but I had to say that this is one exceptionally thoughtful review and the reply. Informative, but also has a point of view. I wish people on this board communicated more like this. You made it better today and it was about WOH. Perfect. Thank you. :)
Though the second part of the last episode was lacking in 'whoa' factor, overall I am happy with the drama and I rated it purely on my enjoyment factor. Is it the best drama ever made? Far from it. But I thoroughly enjoyed it and could have watched another 40 episodes, easily. I really do hope they make season 2.
I haven't read the novel or watched the doghua and I am thoroughly enjoying the drama. I have fun every day and I can't wait for the new episodes. The cast is all good looking and their acting is decent , while 'older guard' has a lot of charm. It's well filmed and I like that at least men have more naturalistic makeup. Plot wise, this is every shounen anime ever from Naruto to My Hero Academia, so nothing new or shocking but, for me, that's part of the charm. It's a perfect watch for the pandemic - you know the good will prevail, so you can relax and cheer for the Devils. :D
I was hooked from the beginning to the end. Though I pretty much saw the 'twist' from the first episode, I got attached to the characters and I wanted more. Thank heavens the writer said there will be second season. I'd like to see Yu Jiwei with an evil twist.
I loved the bromance, the humor, love interest wasn't annoying and was holding her own, characters were overall likable and three-dimensional, the soundtrack was nice too. Also, it was a quick watch and not 40+ episode slog. I really can't wait for more.
I get it, Fei is female Naruto. He wanted to become Hokage, she wants to become the master. Enter endless conveyer belt of villains/masters to teach her and die.
I finally finished the drama. I knew the ending, so I didn't think it would hit me, but it did and hard. I said…
I loved that the remaining Night Furies, Yao Ji, Ji Chong, Bao Na and You Zhe got unambiguous happy endings to somewhat balance the tragedy of Xing'er and Wolf boy.
All in all, this was flawed drama that entertained me and gave me some feelz and that is all that it matters. Very positive viewing experience and I say that as someone who almost never watches dramas without happy ending.
I finally finished the drama. I knew the ending, so I didn't think it would hit me, but it did and hard. I said it before, but it is a small miracle that we got understandable narrative after the censorship butchered the series. I was impressed with what they managed to pull in spite of all the flaws. I really enjoyed all the actors, even in the smallest roles. Darren Wang was a revelation as I never watched him before. The soundtrack is great.
Another thing stands out, no matter how they started, all the female characters ended up as more or less three dimensional characters, which is rare in general but, in my experience, even rarer in Chinese drama. Some spoilers...
That's a problem then (entirely mine), cause I cannot really connect on any significant level to the main characters. They are cute/charming, but that's all surface. Yin Pei shows some prospects though. But, we'll see how it goes from here. At least the last four episodes convinced me to keep giving this drama a chance.
So much content these days, so little time, drama really has to be top notch to earn 51 episode.
Wen Kexing's murder glare was on point. :D
