Let is be a lesson to GMMtv that not every BL needs 12 episodes. They need to experiment with different format : 8 ep as they do for straight series, 6 ep or even 4. 6 ep STGD would have been more enjoyable.
Obviously it wouldn't work someone woke up one day and decided to watch a series about a dentist? Of course not,…
Taiwan's My Tooth Your Love is pretty good though. STGD's issue isn't character's job. The characters and plot are just not interesting. Also, the editing was questionable.
But guys what is Willy's power ?! In next ep trailer I think I saw him with Tony but talking about Tony, as if he's not with him. As if he's reciting/repeating what someone else said. Can he "connect" to people and hear what they're saying and doing ?
Since the series is based on KristSingto's partnership, I believe Tam broke up with Phi to let him grow in his field. Maybe a job opportunity came only for Phi and Tam knew that Phi wouldn't take it without him, so he broke up and disappeared. Or maybe people told him he was holding Phi back from becoming a great anchor. That would align with Singto leaving the ship to allow Krist to develop more as a solo artist while he would study abroad and further his experiences as a free agent.
what about Babe? Surely he must be traumatised after what Willy did to him. He knows now no one will believe that…
Yeah, the "victim blaming" narrative... Let's say you're being harassed by Hannibal Lecter for days, he tells you repeatedly he wants to eat you. Yet, because you think you're smarter than him, you willingly set up a "date" with him at his home and try seducing him in order to collect infos on him. When Hannibal restrains you and draws his scalpel to suck up your brain, I bet you will think "shit what I'm doing here, why did I come here for?!" . I think viewers are allowed to condemn the predator for his criminal act while calling out the victim for putting themselves in this position. It's not mutually exclusive.
The exemple you gave aren't working : Sky was in a emotional and physical abusive relationship with Gun, he had no say, no power in the relationship. And when they met years later, Sky entered the hotel not knowing Gun was inside. No one with a brain would victim blame someone in Sky situation. As for Akin, drinking with colleagues, friends or even strangers isn't in itself a dangerous set up. You can't guess the evil intentions of people around you, or else you stay home and never go out. So no, Akin wasn't stupid for getting drunk around Johnny (also Johnny didn't threaten or harrased him before so he had no reason to be wary of him).
In Babe case, I'm not saying he brought the SA on him. I'm saying he brought whatever Charlie is going to do. And I believe Charlie will break up with him not because he thinks Babe was cheating but because he lied to him and acted like he was interested in Willy, even if it was a plan, it was still lying and risking their relationship.
what about Babe? Surely he must be traumatised after what Willy did to him. He knows now no one will believe that…
He sure is Willy's victim for what almost happened but he's not going to play the martyr with Charlie cause no one asked him to seduce Willy and go to the bathroom with him. How dumb do you have to be to put yourself in this position with a creep who has been harrasing you since day one and told you several times his intention towards you ? Don't get me wrong, he didn't deserve to be SA but he sure deserves to be call out for his stupidity. He played with fire and jeopardized his relationship.
Here we go. He fucked around and found out. Babe is so dumb this season I can't believe it. While it makes for great entertainment, it's really annoying to see him getting played by Willy. He should have worked with Charlie to get ride of him. His ego and arrogance got the better of him. Poor Charlie. It pains me to see him like that, all insecure, confused and afraid to loose his man.
Here we go. Jom is playing with fire, the way he teases Yo with his words and skinship. He's not ready to have this young man seduce him. Wonder if he'll accept his feelings or fight it because of the age gap. Though they're not that far apart (20 to 26 I believe). Can't wait to see that.
It's been years but I still don't like Saint's acting. Like, is he even acting ? Imo he doesn't emote right. Poom, on the other hand, is fantastic.
I completely disagree with your comment, aside from acknowledging SmartBoom’s undeniable chemistry and acting,…
This kind of reply is pretentious and condescending. You're not trying to engage in an objective conversation, you just want to negate my opinion and how I experienced the series. You say TopForm isn't perfect yet you didn't provide one flaw nor did you agree with one of my points. So you do think the series is perfect and your intention is to prove me wrong.
I said the characters didn't interact enough before falling in love and your reply is "Akin gave Jin a candy and helped him cry". Ok... And what about Akin, why did he get feelings for Jin ? Cause Jin tried to kiss him during filming ? And so what ? I mean if it's enough for you, that's good; but it's not for me. You say the series wasn't about ticking plot points but they sure did. They ticked off every single trope/plot so fast I couldn't get anxious or immersed myself into it cause it was resolved at the end of the episode or halfway into the next episode.
When someone doesn't love a series as much as you do it doesn't mean they missed the emotional intention or artistic choices, it just means they didn't connect with it and/or weren't convinced by it. I can appreciate a series and still objectively say when some things aren't good.
Anyway, there's no point arguing cause we don't have to agree. People like what they like.
This was a weird viewing experience for me. I wanted to love TopForm but I couldn't. I love SmartBoom's chemistry and acting but once you remove that from the equation, the series was average. I've issues with the directing and narrative choices. The series felt like a collection of scenes of JinAkin's romantic moments and work struggles but it didn't flow properly. They resolved subplot quickly and move to another one literally the next episode. The pacing was at time too fast and sometimes too slow with nothing happening. - They sped up important moments I needed to see to really feel and care about the characters individually and the depth of their romance : Jin's growing popularity (the 2min montage pissed me off), more JinAkin's interaction for at least 2 to 3 episodes before the timejump in order to show us why Akin fell in love with Jin. As for Jin, he's a fanboy who had a crush on Akin before working with him. But imo a crush isn't love. So how and why did Jin move from a crush to a love so big he could sacrifice anything for Akin ? I wanted to see that. Cause from the get go, he was all in. - The whole series rest on Akin's character and Boom's excellent acting. I understand the series is an adaptation (I read the manga years ago) but they could have made the narration more balanced to better flesh out Jin's character. Throughout the series I felt like I was watching the "Boom show" with all the major drama revolving around Akin and seeing Boom crying repeatedly (yeah sometimes too much of a good thing...). And Jin was more like a love interest, a side kick to Akin than a main lead.
I think TopForm is the perfect exemple of a series that has viewers completely immersed in the acting and the chemistry to the point some of them get critical blindness. I've read a ton of comments about the series but very few were about the storyline in itself and the film directing/production. So I don't expect people to agree with me.
Anyway, I hope to see SmartBoom in another series cause they're amazing together and deserve a better script.
I love it. And I'm not saying this as a KristSingto fan. I genuinely like the story and the directing. Excessive use of flashbacks is my pet peeve but here I enjoy it because they're perfectly used to show many things : how PhiTam fell in love, how they're different but complement each other, how this difference can be their strength. Flashbacks are also used to highglight the characters progression : Phi was a carefree and fun guy but today he's a perfectionist with anger issues. I believe the unexplained breakup hurt him so much he's full of anger and sadness. As for Tam, he was sweet, a bit shy and quite accommodating to Phi. Now, he's more confident and assertive. Thanks to the years apart and experience.
IIRC, Singto said in an interview that before they split he used to let Krist lead in most aspects of their partnership, not always daring to speak up his mind. But now, after maturing, he's more assertive and gives more input. I guess they also took this dynamics in writing the series.
