Wei & Lan loved each other more then just a 'brothers' in the novel. The original novel depicted an explicit romance between the two main male characters, the adaptation was censored with homoerotic subtexts instead due to China's ban of LGBT portrayals in films. The sires is very close to the novel some slight differences. All in all the novel is amazing just like the 50eps series.
