My point is, it's ridiculous that the support of his parents, the support of his friends, his soaring career opportunities, the many many romantic moments he had with SDM, and etc... was not enough to give the ML confidence to pursue the FL.
And the one thing that was stopping him was the blessing of the SL, who the ML did not like at all.
Just feels so ridiculous, and I've never seen this in any other love triangle.
HJP in the first 6-8 episodes, and HJP in the last 4-6 episodes are two different people. A lot of what he does…
The wrote a great character for HJP, then decided to just butcher him because NDS was not shining enough.
I think around Ep. 3 or 4, NDS was still ok, but then 5-8, people started to dislike him. And definitely after EP. 10, he lost many fans.
I'm not sure why the writer wrote such a strong SL and a weak ML. The writer then proceeds to spend Ep. 11-16 getting the fans to feel sorry for NDS and root for him, but it just doesn't work.
The damage she did to HJP's character was pretty massive. The sadder HJP's Arc started to look like, the more fans wanted him to win. And the worse HJP's life looked like, the more people disliked NDS.
The mess of Start Up, on how it failed to captivate the majority of audience, has more to do with the writing than anything else.
The time skip was completely useless and just lazy writing.
Ugh it's killing me. I really want to know what PHR was planning before she had to change the ending. I'm still…
In the end, the metaphors are just simple misdirection. They have no real meaning. I mean when SDM says "just because", you know the writer ran out of paper. The last 4-6 episodes and the presence of a time skip is some of the worst writing i've ever seen.
Maybe PHR had another story in mind, maybe not. We can only guess. It's hard to move on, I know though, so I can relate.
A good start doesn't erase a bad finish, and for me Start Up ended really poorly.
Am I the only one who didn't root for HJP bec. the character is dry? in my opinion he didn't do much for dalmi…
HJP in the first 6-8 episodes, and HJP in the last 4-6 episodes are two different people. A lot of what he does in the tail end episodes seem uncharacteristic for his initial characterization, which includes inactivity for 3 years.
But what can you do? It's hard to keep a character consistent. As far as I know, no Kdrama in the history of Kdrama is able to keep characters consistent throughout 16 episodes. The writer did her best, considering she had a quota to hit of NDS and SDM romantic scenes.
A lot of the harshness of HJP on the outside, are offset by his good heart in the inside. And who hasn't seen the harsh man with the heart of gold in movies/drama? it's literally everyone's favorite underdog story.
I just can't have peace, and need a little venting. My irl friends all like nds and can't see nothing wrong about…
You will find that in life, your friends may not share your views on everything. And as disappointing as it may be, that is life.
I'm not surprised that some people identified with NDS. Don't forget the writer cut HJP screen time, bumped up the romantic scenes of SDM and NDS, and made NDS cry buckets. Some people fall for this kind of shallow tactics.
But, this time your in the majority, and you'll find most people will agree NDS was unlikeable.
I was talking generally speaking, not about untamed in particular. And was pointing out the more views in a homogenous population and less view globally are two different metrics and cannot really be compared this way, then I give examples of why, using Wolf Warrior 2 and Parasite as example.
That's what I thought, when I visited here a few months back the people were so nice and supportive. Glad to see the same sane people are still here :)
Hugs back!
But yes, for the record, the shipping wars in Start Up comment section is not causing the drop in ratings in Untamed, just wanted to clarify that. I don't even know how that rumor started, it's crazy and not logical.
I don't want to start a KDrama vs CDrama war, because I don't care.
But I want to point out some things. A drama that is viewed by billions, as compared to one that is viewed by millions on paper seems like a good comparison.
But for me it's a proof that domestically a show or actors does very well. But for me, I value world wide appeal more.
Let me give you an example. There are probably a lot of chinese movies that have tons of viewers. Doing some math, I estimate the highest grossing chinese film based on wikepedia is Wolf Warrior 2. It grossed 5B yuan, which I roughly calculated to be 125-150M admissions? Correct me if i'm wrong as google says movie tickets are about 40 yuan?
A movie from Korea, like Parasite, did not have this much viewers. On average their worldwide gross is only 375M, which accounts for more or less 25-40M admissions.
Using your logic, does this mean Wolf Warrior 2 which saw almost 4-5 times the amount of viewers as Parasite the superior movie?
On IMDB parasite is a 8.5/10 and Wolf Warrior 2 was a 6/10.
In my opinion international appeal is a better measure of how good a show/movie is.
Now, i'm not saying Untamed is bad, but claiming the Cdrama has more viewers thus is more popular than Kdrama is kind of misleading.
It's like saying CPOP is better than KPOP because they have billions of fans compared to only millions for KPOP. But in reality KPOP has a more international reach as compared to CPOP.
Also the fact these mediums, Kdrama and KPOP has more global appeal, means that advertisments are also reaching a more global audience.
In the end I agree with you, it doesn't matter what a show is rated, if you love it, great, if you hated it also great.
Is romance of the Tiger and Rose worth watching? A friend of mine is recommending it.

Let that thought sink for a second...

I hope you don't represent this community sweetie...
