it's not a stretch at all, he used to be sweet, but later.. toxic.I called it toxic because the writer never address…
The problem I have here is, leads like Lee Min Ho in Boys Over Flower, is absolutely a toxic prick, but the writers wrote him like that, the audience knows that from the start. So it's obvious the ML is toxic, and the writes intended him to be so.
In Start Up, all the toxicity is hidden behind immaturity. Which the time skip supposedly fixed. The writer wanted to write the ML as an angel who just happened to be immature. A notion that nobody fell for.
I understand why NDS fell in love with SDM, he saw in her a fellow obsessive crybaby.
But why did HJP fall for SDM? And why did he not have a girlfriend for almost 40 years of his life?
Remember in the earlier episodes, HJP says he is happy, he is rich, he works out and etc...
Then Grandma says, you are in your 30's and not married, you are not happy. That was the one missing piece, and I guess it will still be the missing piece when the drama is over.
Also, I don't understand, Grandma is pretty much blind in Ep. 14, so there is no point in getting her a corn dog stand, so why even bother mentioning it in Ep. 13, so that SDM can reject HJP's idea one more time? So cruel this writer.
Great crying scene of HJP and Grandma. Emotionally charged, obviously some great words were exchanged, which were never shown. We don't know what HJP tells grandma when she ask, "what is wrong?".
3 year time skip, and HJP only visits during Chuseok? And as Grandma's eyes get worse, we don't see any more scenes between them? But instead we get more piggybacking SDM? Oh boy...
I guess what frustrates me, is that in the early half of the episodes, HJP is shown to be a confident man, who is hardened by his background, and isn't worried to tell people the truth. even his confession to SDM backs all this up.
To see him being torn down by this horrid writing into less than half the man he is, is just so disappointing. He's being made forced into the mold of a second lead who just never does anything, and hides his feelings.
Ep. 14 is done, and I STILL don't know how HJP is getting a happy ending.
Are we just suppose to believe he will say he is happy, and that's it? Ugh, 14 episodes of pure torture for an artificial fake happy ending for HJP would make my blood boil.
I had to stomach all the NDS and SDM scenes to see HJP get his happy ending, a cop out would just make me feel so disgusted.

Ep. 14 is where they let SDM walk for 20 hours to the camping spot :)
Sorry HJP, no room for Han's in the Seo family.
I guess NDS got what he wanted, No plan B, well played NDS.
1. Never be too nice to girls, they will walk all over you and friend zone you.
2. When a girl ask for space, stalk them.
3. Only do good deeds to girls if you will get something in return, otherwise don't do it.
4. Don't let girls do things for themselves, they don't like it.
5. Lying is ok, as long as you love the girl, and she never finds out.
6. When a man with bigger hands comes in the picture, just back off.
7. If you are an orphan, you deserve to be lonely.
The show romanticizes unhealthy behavior over "good boy" behavior, and that is the main issue people have with the show.

female leads are just so damn weak in Kdrama, this show has really made me sad for women's portrayal in Kdrama.
and the one strong female WIJ, gets barely any screen time. What message does this send...

Sigh, what a frustrating episode.
If not for this community of HJP fans, I would have felt that I wasted so much time investing in this sh1t drama :((((
We HJP fans have more class, just like HJP :)
