Well I gave this show 12 episodes but I really can't get into it.I'm not a fan of Wu Suo Wei and Chi Cheng's dynamic…
Rare to find someone who also didn't like that rapey trash Addicted! We're a minority for sure.

For this work, CJD admitted to her original webnovel being terrible and she urged viewers not to read it, the live adaptation is MILES better than the novel, they really toned down in so many good ways and changed it for the better in other ways, but still, when it comes right down to it, it won't be to everyone's taste and that's understandable. For me, this show is a W and I've loved every episode of their wildin' shenaniganry lol

In case you didn't already know about it, another good Chinese proper BL released not long before this was The Sparkle in my Eye and before that there was Secrets Happened On Litchi Island. You might enjoy those.

can someone tell me if the snakes in this series—especially the one always coiled around Chi Cheng’s hand—are…
All the snakes used are real except for the ones 'fighting' in the first episode. Those 2 are CGI.

No such thing as bromance in a censored Cn BL. That a legally FORCED tag by the Chinese government. The male leads…
Nope. It's gay. No friendship here. Bromance is its own genre. If you put censorship on a bromance, nothing would change, if you remove censorship from a censored BL, everything would change.

These two things are not the same. Unless you like wearing no-homo goggles, then that's on you.

Why though? Is there any reason why she holds some secret animosity?
Ikr? SW in the novel was shit. So was CC though. The adaptation is a massive upgrade.

That was sooooooo good, I love it when they feed me the angst I didn't even know I was missing and damn, they piled it on there toward the end real good! I was grinning from ear to ear and I loved how they did Chi Cheng's crying scene, not over dramatic, not noisy, not snot and tears, just that quietly screaming deep inside with self anger, moving through the motions on automatic as he processes his pain and regret and uselessness in that situation while tears started to stream down his face yeesssssssssss <3 I loved it.

Aaaaah. This was satisfying.
And hmmm, I wonder if Chengyu didn't directly choose to pay or do some underhanded stuff to get Chi Cheng out, or threaten that Lin guy or Wang Zhenlong, because he doesn't want to tread on CC's father's toes? It's like he's operating in the background, but through the legal channels because he seems to have a very high awareness of not getting on CC's dad's bad side, even warned CC not to go against his dad in ep 21. And since his dad is being a royal homophobic prick and choosing to leave CC hanging out to dry, I can see why Chengyu would keep things legal as possible but still be doing what he can. It's of integral importance after all, that CC walks away with a clear slate and no criminal record. So there can be no underhanded stuff from the 'family's' side.

Episode notes:
- I laughed at Wang Zhenlong just hanging around an abandoned warehouse sitting in a fancy leather armchair like some wish dot com villain. That guy 😂 😂 😂 even brought his own lighting! But for real. CC did partially disable him, can't be mad at the man for being pissed. Karma is a bitch like that.

- For the first time ever (for me) in this show, I felt annoyed at wasted screen time. I have no words for how much interest I DID NOT have in seeing WZ and WS again, what a useless set of scenes. Although, I do applaud WSW's level of pettiness in hitting back at verbally WS, I would probably have high fived him in that moment irl because he derailed WS's mouthy bs pretty quickly, albeit, childishly. It was deserved, WS is super fucking annoying.

- Chengyu (Zhan Xuan) was looking extra fine in this episode. Just saying. 🖤〽_(:3」∠)_

- I like CC's sister, she's not a dumbass or a puppet, the only one in Chi Cheng's family (besides CC himself) with the ability to think for herself, without years of familial, subliminal and blatant, generational brainwashing and emotional manipulation clouding her judgement.

- Suowei's choices, in the vein of being willing to give up everything for the one he loves, makes him a G. He really said 'gotta go hard or go home', or in this case 'go broke and sell my home', but the outcome was the same! :D He's locked CC down for life like he doesn't even realisssssse. hehehe

- SW's visiting CC in prison scene was mint overall. As I said, it fed my angst hunger significantly. Yummy yummy.

Ready for tomorrow! Let's have it >:D

PS: In other news, Gangzi's actor is FINALLY in the cast! Everyone likes Gangzi, don't even act like it's not true.

Waitt, our friend Wang Shuo left too early but without clearing the reason he left his man for 7 years, but did…
From what I understood, he left CC because he wanted him to pursue him, to prove he mattered, he'd eventually go after him. WS is not mentally well though, and the entirety of the reasons he did what he did, even after he came back, are quite foolish and poorly thought out.

I was not paying attention, I was ballparking it, so it was nice to have it confirmed.

Another fun ep. There were some really nice established relationship/domestic moments, and I enjoyed CC's frank conversation with his dad about his relationship with SW. Once again, the adaptation picked the better parts of this arc and depicted it well.

I'll be honest though, I'm not a fan of kids so the child interaction scenes went over my head and my eyes glazed over a bit, but it didn't last long and anyway, I do know the point of those scenes and the appeal they have to the majority of viewers, even if they don't mean anything to me, so I understand why writers always include children, especially for how overbearingly 'important' it is in Asian culture. Kid did a pretty convincing job in his role though, kudos to him. I did find it funny he had the standoffish trait of his mother, uncle and grandpa, when he was telling SW to back off and said no to him 😂

Some random RL thoughts:

-I think it's actually obvious and interesting to see these final eps, regarding the difference in the
actors' demeanors and appearances, for example, there was more focus on them looking well lit and more makeup'd and TXN obviously lost weight as the show went on, because he was much thinner in the first eps, which we know were actually largely filmed last.

- I was also thinking about the fact that Chinese series and film productions do not use intimacy coordinators. I think it's only Thailand and SK that do, maybe Taiwan, but I think Japan doesn't and I know that China doesn't, or if they do, it's probably super rare and maybe depends on the producers and directors of a particular show. Now, it's obvs not 'necessary' in Chinese productions because they keep things PG in all Mainland shows, but if producers are going to be making more proper BLs to release internationally, they should probably consider starting to use IC's. My point in mentioning it though, was to give a big nod to these four main leads! Who all did pretty damn well with their intimate scenes considering they didn't have any intimacy-handling prior to filming and were (as we see in the bts) doing things just according to the director telling them play by play and not even on a closed set, full crew around them, and their first times too, ya'll, it's def not easy. They probably all went through some rapid and possibly stressful mental and physical adjustments to get comfortable as fast as possible. I think they're all just lucky to get along so well and they obviously had a supportive director and crew to make them feel at ease. It would have been easier on them with a coordinator prior to filming though, but they did really great anyway!

- I haven't written fanfiction in 5 whole ass years, but I'm very seriously considering writing a CC and CY prequel era fic, like, it's weighing heavy in my damn brain pan.

Okay rando thoughts over!
Ep highlights:
- CC standing up to his dad and then flipping the script when he saw SW limping to freedom 😂😂
- The bathtub scene <3
- CC's discussion with his father about his relationship
- The easter egg of CY and XS

The preview finally gave us a timeline (2 years have passed) and CC looks hilarious with his five-o-clock shadow! Keen for tomorrow >:D

Oh, yep yep. This will be likely be a 10 for me too. My 10 rating is based PURELY on how much I like a show, idgaf about how anyone else felt about it 😂 If it checks all MY boxes, it's a 10 for me.

Agree. Imo, finding humor in even the darkest places/scenarios and navigating the flaws of life needs to represented in creative art and media, especially fiction, or it's a waste of imaginative expression.

There has never been a single 'perfect' BL in existence, no matter who says what. But the enjoyment factor of the over all show determines the value of said show per person, per their taste and preferences. And for majority of viewers, including me, this dark romantic dramatic comedy is great and all their stupid shenanigans just makes it better.

I watch both types of series, and also mini series and limited series, from all countries, I also watch movies and movie trilogies and movie franchises from all countries. It's all good for me, as long as it's good.

I'm still chuckling about CC dragging off SW off to shag him in that tent where Chengyu and XS can hear and see everything because they've obviously done this before, probably in the SAME room sometimes and the story is lowkey setting the tone for the future of their, uh, open-minded, dynamic. 😂 Ya'll already forgot what WS said about them 'doing it all the time'. Even dating twins and MIXING them up. 😂😂 The signs are all present, CJD really said 'read between the lines' 🤣 she knew what she was doing for real.

This is one of those times when I would appreciate a western producer because you KNOW they would do a second season AND a prequel of CC and CY, and the actors are still young enough to play college versions of themselves too and uuuhhhhhh it would be so good.
I mean it's hella good right now too, but MORE good wouldn't hurt, you know? XD
