Hasn’t that childhood friend already appeared. I don’t think she has any more plot left.
I am enjoying it, especially since the show is more of a satirical depiction of the way people think and behave at that time. Characters like the mother and the spineless husband now just make me laugh.
The scheming is fun, especially with people playing double agents and external/internal collusion.
The first couple Chai An and Kang Ning are perfect for each other. I enjoyed their romance - I liked the bit of slow burn but appreciate that it was moving along nicely. It's a good pace since we have other couples that we need to root for as well.
Give it a try - if you can stand the screechy mother who really was not that bad in the end. because her love for her daughters, redeemed her, then I think you might enjoy the rest of the episodes.
We are still pretty early in the show, so who knows what's to come.
Ep 9 and 10 were so much fun with all the scheming on behalf of the couple. It was also a little stressful wondering if they would ever get together! I love Chai An's smile when he finally got his wish ❤️
Looks like the oldest sister is still the wisest. I still ship her with Du Yang Xi. Edit after ep 9 - she is also the most calculating. I’m a little annoyed at her. How dare she stand between our couple?

I see both the mother and the spineless husband as caricatures, satirical portrayals of that period, and societal thinking. That's how I can tolerate them :D

I think so, too. Of course, like any other show, there will be frustrating scenes, and we will want to vent, but there were and will be heart-fluttering moments. There will also be satisfying moments when we finally see our battling couple get married. I can't wait!

The show is most enjoyable when Kang Ning and Chai An are battling wits and actually talking to each other. It's better when they pull in other smart people who are good at scheming. I like that Liu Ba Niang - too bad Chai An and Kang Ning have no brothers that I can ship her with.
I wish I started this earlier. Just finished ep 6 and I just love watching Xuan Lie looking at Qi Luo with pride and admiration. He looks so good simping! I know there will be angst but I hope there will sweet moments for our couple too. Shimin and Luo Zhi Zhou are easy on the eyes too. But I don’t like the Princess - reading the comments that she hasn’t improve in the recent episodes.

So true and it is unfortunate that people during those times marry so young. They clearly have not become adults and in a way, their families are not helping. The husband's a mama boy who makes the decisions for him, and the wife's family only teaches to become a shrew, someone who tricks, lies and manipulates the husband. No one to teach them about communication, partnership and supporting each other.
