Also, she doesn't tell him because she doesn't feel deserving of his friendship or love. She did initially approach him without caring at all. That guilt stops her from seeking anything genuine. These feelings of being unlovable and undeserving are also connected to her mother's actions and it is discussed by her more prominently after the leap.
