I think it was selfish of the prince to let the older Jiang sister participate this far in the selection. He should’ve warned her that he could not ultimately choose her as consort and only as concubine. Instead she completely trusted him and he had no choice but to let her down.

I don’t even understand how he gave in so quickly, I mean one moment he’s scolding her dad for his out of control daughter and hating this family as a whole and the next few minutes he gives in and takes her in as consort without giving it so much thought, like what?

Actually Bai Lu explains it perfectly in an interview. She says that she’s not actually in love with him, she sees it as more of an obsession/guilt to make things right with him, but she confuses that with love, and that her actual true love will be the ML.
