That's the impression I have from the comments. I admit, to maybe using the wrong expression. Maybe he has a room for improvement power wise, but the comments gave me the impression that there is no growth to be done as a person - as he is already an adult with established perfect personality. I find it more interesting to see how the character learns in this type of genre, but, again, that's my personal preference.

I didn't make a judgement. Just said that the impression I got from your comments (not just yours, but several) is that I wouldn't like the animation. We all have our preference, I prefer the drama version of the character

It's just an opinion. You prefer him in the anime, I prefer him in the drama. For me it also stings when you call him weak, but it's whatever. Everyone is different
I don't think I really care where the romance part of the drama goes. Would prefer if they don't focus on it, but whether XW and TS have a romantic relationship or stay as siblings, I'm fine ether way.

Young lady, first you have no idea how much anime I've watched. Well let me enlighten you: I got through all of Bleach and this is just one out of about 100 that I've finished, not to mention about 50 that I dropped. Second, just like you expressed your opinion, I expressed mine. I'm not saying yors is invalid, please do pay me the same respect. I do not like perfect characters that have no room for development. They are, in my opinion, the most boring, unrelatable and unininteresting there are. I also did not get an impression that Tang San is weak or stupid, while watching the drama. And if my comment about animation, that you like so much, stings, well, here's food for thought.
9 episodes in and ALOT of the plot changes i'm disappointed about :/ they keep making tan san look weak they put…
The more I hear about the anime, the less I want to watch it. The perfect Tang San, strong and confident from the get go, smart, always composed, never looses. What is he a robot? So boring. I would probably fall asleep halfway through the first episode.
I'm really curious. When people say that SFX here is bad, just what kind of budget do you think c-dramas have? Don't get me wrong, if you compare this with... idk, Avengers? Game of thrones? then, yes, special effects here look pretty cheap most places. But Avengers also had a budget of more than 300 mln USD for each 3 hour movie and GOT had an average 10 mln USD for each episode. This drama has SFX in almost every episode, there are 40 of those. Do you really think anyone would invest that kind of money into a TV series, in a country where said TV series might not be released at all, might be release years later (like it happened here) or might be chopped up so much before release (due to censoring), that they won't be able to get any return of investment? Compared to most of the other fantasy TV I've seen (even a lot American ones), SFX here is actually pretty decent. But, like someone said, they got a lot of their budget later on and when you add SFX without planning ahead, they would look worse. You want to see what really cheap SFX look like? Try Fights break sphere. That poor drama definitely had no budget at all. Sorry, about this rant :) Just kind of bugs me :)
I agree with you so much on the "cliché but in a good way"! This is the exact genre of coming-of-age fantasy…
Yes, yes. Exactly that genre. If done well it's a really good light watch. And, so far, they are doing a good job with it. I only recently started to watch dramas, so this is the first Chinese version of it that I see (well, no, LOF attempted to do it, but not very well). And it really is so nostalgic, like you said.
What really surprises me about this drama is that I literally don't have a single character I dislike or find boring. I'm up to episode 9 and sure some of the new characters are more of background now, but I think we'll get their back stories with plot progression. Really like the FL. She is my favorite type of character: acts silly, but actually very smart and strong. I really missed this type of story: a bit cliché, but in a good way. Weirdly it reminds me of Bleach (anime), not with anything specific, just the general impression. It's kind of scary that, so far, the only things I could complain about would sound like nitpicking.
If you expect this drama to follow tightly to the plot in the Novel and Donghua then maybe this is not for you.…
Have to agree about Xiao Zhan's "surprised" acting, but I think it's purposely comical... maybe. Not sure why they do it that way, but it seems intentionally overexaggerated.
I would have bought VIP myself if I could , but I can't read a lick of Chinese to buy the VIP package so I'm stuck…
I have a wetv vip and I don't use the app. I use the website (there is a link up on this page). It's kind of finicky sometimes - suddenly says "not available in your region", but closing and opening the page again usually fixes that.
I just can't. This is hilarious. Tang San the Pikachu generating machine. A bit spoilery, because it's based on the sequence from episodes 6-7, but it's short and there are a lot of sfx, so it won't spoil much. https://weibo.com/tv/show/1034:4601957927550985?from=old_pc_videoshow
I was looking forward to watching this as I liked the sound of it but I have dropped it. Definitely not for me.…
Honestly, Joswald522 is right. Please stop. No one has to like it and sometimes dislike is subjective (just as the opposite). You leaving accusations on every negative comment, makes this comment section uncomfortable.
I think there's no need to be rude. Even if you're right (which, I don't think you are), you're just giving them the reaction they want. And if you're wrong, you're only giving a bad impression of yourself. Lets keep the comment section civil.
I see..Okay will be wait til at least 20 eps for watch..Actually its rare to see 9.1 for the rating.. the most…
I don't think I would bet on that. This is the same screenwriter that wrote the Joy of life and the first season of that ended on a massive cliffhanger.
Just finished the 7th episode and don’t get the high rating. I know that everyone is watching it for Sean Xiao…
I think it's the general problem with ratings on this website (at least for Chinese dramas, I don't watch Korean ones, so I don't know). I only recently started watching dramas in general and before that watched a lot of anime. So I was used to myanimelist where 7.5 usually means something is pretty good. And then I came here and was sooo confused by the ratings. It's just that people tend to give ether 10 or 1, rarely in between, so if there are a lot of good ratings you get results like 9. I'd say it's too early to judge. I'd give it an 8-8.5 now, but things can go downhill (hope not).
