Knowing what's to come in the upcoming episodes, the last scene in episode 18 made me cry just out of nowhere.

Another thing: I usually don't like the second couple romance in c-dramas, but in this one, I'm rooting for them as much I'm rooting for the main couple.

Are there still naysayers? Xu Kai's acting skills have always been good, and he is constantly improving his skill set. Especially in his last two dramas, WOL and S&F6, where he unleashed his skillset with full force.

From all of their off-screen interactions, it seems like they have a good, genuine friendship.

Wow, the Xin family is a mess. And in all this mess, they still dare to pull MCH into it again and again and again.

Yu Zheng never publicly declared his hatred for Xu Kai, at least as far as I know. But privately, he created many "scandals" against Xu Kai. He also doesn't do shit to defend Xu Kai if other people create "scandals" against Xu Kai. Like recently, when Xu Kai's other drama, ABAY, was rumoured to air, rumours spread that Xu Kai has contracted HIV by sleeping around with a lot of women (apparently, this supposedly resulted in ABAY being postponed). His studio didn't do shit, so he personally had to go to the police station and lodge a complaint against the rumour mongers.

Oh yes, I noticed this to be a problem in the Mai family. Mai papa and Mai mama seemed to stutter quite a few times before. And this was the first time MCH has stuttered. So, I thought it was a family trait, lol.

I also get a bit of a stutter when I'm extremely nervous or incensed.

By defending, I'm not referring to you. I'm referring to the drama. A lot of Chinese dramas these days portray these kinds of parents, and in the end brush off their actions by saying "they are parents". It frustrates the hell out of me.
I hope BCE does not fall into this category.

I was a lot more excited for this drama as compared to BCE. I still am, but BCE turned out to be very good. You just need to know that it is a slice of life kind of drama that focuses on family and life. If that is not your cup of tea, then that's fine.

Yes, he picked this one himself. His agency didn't know until he was officially announced as the ML. This is one of the reasons why none of his agency's other actors/actresses are in this drama.

I get your points. But the problem is, the future in-laws family do not respect them. Even in ancient times (Asia or outside Asia), if the future in-laws family do not respect your family, instead look down and humiliate your family, you consider it a bad match, break the betrothal, and move on to another prospective match.

Hence, MCH's mom cannot be defended any more. I get that China is going full on for filial piety, but this drama might be taking it too far by trying to defend this sort of behavior.

I'm sorry, but I can't, in any way or form, defend MCH's mom. Even by Asian parents' standards, she can't be defended (I know, because I am also an Asian, and I also have naggy parents).

I understand that she wants her daughter to marry into a rich family so that she can live well. But I don't get why she is hellbent on making her daughter suffer for it. And for what? A husband who has no spine? What can he do to protect her from her family? I'm sure MCH's mom can see this, yet she still wants her daughter to marry into that family? She knows that family doesn't like her daughter. They demean her and her family. Humiliate her and her family. Still, somehow, she thinks her daughter will live a good life by marrying into that family? Hogwash!

Yao Zhiming is a bit on the grey side, but I agree the others are actually good.

I don't understand why people are surprised XK has less screen time in BCE. But the drama is surprisingly very good.

And yes, Xu Kai as Yao Zhi Ming is giving me all Han Ting vibes, lol. That's exactly how I imagined Han Ting to be. Han Ting is always smiling, but the smile is not sincere. Xu Kai as Yao Zhi Ming also smiles a lot, but there is a lot of cunning in there. He is almost like a villain in the first 6 episodes, and I loved it.

Now, I hope ABAY gets postponed a bit more later, or we might see so many comparisons between Yao Zhi Ming and Han Ting.

This is surprisingly very good.

From the moment they announced this drama, I knew it was going to be female/family-centric, and consequently, the ML's role would be like a supporting character. That was one of the reasons why I was not that excited for this drama, since I am a Xu Kai fan. But this is really really good. I'm digging it.
