voice dubbing takes a lot from cdramas and is one of the reasons they aren't yet as popular as they should be. (compared to their korean counterpart that I'm not a huge fan of )
like this scene hits hard from ML the voice is part of the acting and he was just excellent here and better than the final draft wr got .

i have so many people i like in HRY's sect. The meng guy with his demon lover, the drunk master, but that guy who keeps waiting for his parents to pick him up is a scene stealer.

First of all you I don't think it's spreading negativity when it's critiquing a fictional show. I feel like here people get very protective about dramas and they think any dissenting voice is out to get the actors or production or whatever and it is ridiculous lmao 🤣
That said, I disagree with your take, imo 300 years of suffering might do that to one's personality. So i feel there is no inconsistency but right character arc for HRY.
As for BJS , he was always indifferent to humans , compared them to ants in the first life. so I don't how he was "suddenly" cold hearted when it came to humans. he only ever cared about heaven's will and HRY.
