"If God teaches us to love, but we aren't allowed to love one another, then what is the point of God existing in this world?"As someone who grew up in the Church and is still Catholic to this day, I had to learn on my own that religion was built by humans and, because of that, it is bound to make mistakes.I also had to learn that a beautiful, sincere, and genuine love could never be considered a sin by God.For me, learning these things simply meant becoming a better person, someone who truly lives by what God actually teaches us: to love one another. But for Tan, it's so much more than that. He genuinely believes he's living in sin. I can't even begin to imagine the pain of believing that God would stop loving him just because he fell in love with another boy. That's why this story hurts so much. No one should ever have to grow up believing they have to choose between their faith and the ability to love. If God is love, then love should never be the reason someone feels unworthy of His love.
