SUCH a Great Sequel Series!

Good Morning Call is one of my favorite shows of all time, and this sequel did not disappoint! Our Campus Days did such a good job encapsulating the feel from the first series, even with how many changes occurred between the first series and this one. The entire basic premise changed— Nao and Uehara don't live together anymore, no more forced proximity— as well as the setting, new characters are introduced... So much changed, but Nao, Uehara, and Marina were all such strong characters and the writing was so good that it still felt the same, which is a feat in and of itself.

The new characters were really great, as well. Ota was a really sweet friend to Nao, Saeko was a funny love-rival. Natsume was an AMAZING second lead— he stold my heart from the second he showed up on screen, and he held it all the way through the end of the show. I legit wanted Nao to end up with him, and even though I knew it wasn't going to happen my heart broke a little when she didn't. Natsume is such a wonderful character that he sticks in my brain so clearly, even two years later as I write this review. He came off the screen in the best way.

The college vibes in this show were really on point, too! It was all really enjoyable— I honestly can't think of a single complaint. I wouldn't necessarily say this outdid the first season, but it was definitely just as good. I know it'll probably never happen, but I want a season three!

A Great Drama, Especially If You're Starting Out!

It's been over two years since I first watched this show, and it remains one of my favorite shows I've ever watched. It was the first drama I tried and I fell in love straight away. I thought the initial set-up— Uehara and Nao being tricked into renting the same apartment and thus being forced to live together— was campy and funny, and it set up for some great humor as the show went on. The situation was just absurd enough to be funny, but handled very well throughout the story.

I liked Nao a lot as a main character, though sometimes her passiveness and her lack of communication frustrated me. Still, as a teenage girl entering into her first relationship, it was realistic and I was always on her side. And even though Uehara wasn't my favorite of her potential love interests, he was a really good character to follow. I enjoyed him more and more as we got to know him and his own life situation over the course of the series.

I liked Nao's friends a lot, as well! Marina was funny as hell, and Mitchan was sweet and funny. Their relationship was a cute side plot.

I did end up liking both of the secondary love interests more than the main love interest. I especially loved Daichi— that scene where he hugged Nao in the rain grabbed me by the heart and made me almost cry! I wanted her to just be with him so badly. Issei was also a really great love interest, and I appreciated how different he was from both Uehara and Daichi. It would have been really easy to make him a Daichi 2.0, but he stood on his own and would have been well-suited for Nao, I think.

I have such fond memories from watching this show. Specifically, coming home late at night from work and thinking, "At least I have time to watch Good Morning Call before bed!!" It was truly a bright spot in my daily life as I watched, and I will definitely be watching again.

Not Bad For an Anthology Mini-Series

You know, this was overall pretty enjoyable for an anthology series that was little more than 45 minute ads for Oishi juice. I know there have been a lot of complaints about the over-the-top ad elements, but honestly I just accepted it for what it was and let myself enjoy these little episodes (especially InkPa's episode, since it was SUCH a treat to get more of them so unexpectedly!!)

Zero Photography: This was such a cute episode! I love InkPa with all my heart, and it was so nice to get a little more of them and their story together. Milk and Love are both brilliant actresses, and while I was quite salty we still didn't get a proper kiss from them, I loved this! 10/10 (and currently praying that GMMTV is testing the waters to give MilkLove their own series next year!!)

Zero in the Moonlight: I think it's so interesting that this is the only oneshot/original episode out of the bunch, but I thought Tu and Dew were cute together! The whole plot was quite silly in my opinion, but it was a cute little oneshot. 8/10 (also ngl I'm now in love with Dew mmkay!)

Zero Supporter: I didn't watch Cupid's Last Wish, and this was definitely not the episode to try to make me watch it. I don't really like single-episode body swaps (I felt the same in PickRome's Our Skyy episode), and the constant fighting between Korn and Win made me not want to see them as a couple. I get that my opinion on this episode and on them isn't very fair since I haven't seen their show, but I just wish there had been some other conflict besides them fighting so much. 4/10

Very Surface-Level

This HIStory series is supposed to showcase different BL tropes, and this installment did exactly that and no more. The show was super quick to watch (just hardly over an hour altogether) and easy to get through, but it really lacked substance and development. The concept of the show and how the BL storyline progressed could have been so much better if more time had been spent on it, and if the rest of the story was fleshed out more. We know pretty much nothing about our characters even by the end, and the scenes have no real substance or character to them. Even the ending was really quick and unexplained, which just left me feeling unsatisfied.

It's not bad by any means, but it could have been so much better.
