Born and raised in KL, Malaysia. I now reside in Melb, Aus.
When did I get into C-dramas?
It was the start of COVID and I remembered not having anything to do to fill my time. I can't remember the exact moment, but I remembered thinking to myself, I'm going to re-learn mandarin. The last time I looked at it was when I was a kid, so I knew this was no easy task. I strapped myself onto doing DuoLingo everyday till I finished the entire Chinese course on there. With that out the way, I thought to myself... the only other way I'm going to learn it, is by being engrossed in all things chinese/mandarin.
So I went researching online and found 'Ashes of Love' and started watching it only to learn I was hooked to the show about 3-4 episodes in. It was there, I grew my love for Deng Lun (who will always remain my no 1 ?). I'd seen all his shows and even watched his movie 'Yin Yang Master' more than 3 times now. I still play it when I have nothing else to watch.
I even started watching his other shows and eventually found a liking to reality shows like 'The Great Escape' , 'Go fighting' and more.
3 years on and I've seen countless shows now. My favourite actors include Leo Luo, BaiLu, Leo Wu, Lin Geng Xin, Yang Mi, Dilireba, Yang Yang, Li Qin, Joseph Zheng, and more..
I enjoy watching wuxia/xan xia dramas. I don't mind modern day dramas like 'Hidden Love' but they can't be too cheesy.
My top 5 Chinese dramas to date:
- Ashes of Love
- One and Only
- A dream of Splendour
- Novoland Pearl Eclipse
- My Journey to you (currently airing)
Oh! and my favourite singer - Mao Bu Yi, I even have a song lyric from his song 给你给我, scripted by a Chinese calligrapher framed. My ears know how to spot him now in any show. ahaha.
K-dramas:
On the flip side, I've always been an avid K-drama fan!I think the first ever k-drama I watched was 'The Heirs'.
I've also been learning Korean for almost 6 months now professionally after deciding to take my passion seriously and in hopes to watch shows without having to read subtitles.
My top 5 favourite K-drama to date:
- Revenant
- The Red Sleeve
- Dr Romantic
- The King: Internal Monarch
- Tale of Nine Tailed
Nice to meet you, I hope we can chat and be friends!
