Just what I needed. Not chocolate, but a sweet, heartfelt story full of kindness and sincerity. And no real villains. Han Hyo-joo continues to amaze me. There is nothing she can't do. 10/10

It's typical to compare films/drama series that have something in common to each other. Critics do it all the time. Having watched both female general dramas, one after the other, all I did was compare the two, and on this Legend of a Female General's page, I prefaced my comment with "Unpopular opinion." And you're still saying that I haven't the right to post an unpopular opinion.

The Story of Minglan and The Story of Yanxi Palace were the two c-dramas that got me hooked on c-dramas. They are classics. I will look for other works by Daylight Entertainment. Thanks for the info.

I understand that it probably has to do somewhat with a centuries' old tradition from Chinese theatre/opera, and it makes perfect sense that historical c-dramas would carry on that tradition. I came to c-dramas via k-dramas in which there are many (MANY) fewer lengthy historical dramas produced, and the best of the film actors have been trained in theatre and film schools to use their voices as part of the acting process, so those might be the reasons why they so any necessary dubbing themselves.

To be honest, I like her acting, but I can't stand her cute voice. And I've noticed that the same voice actress (maybe it's Esther) dubs many of the cute girl characters, and I find that a turnoff. But I'm a non-Asian, c-drama fan, and c-dramas aren't made for viewers like me.

Sometimes the voice actresses for the young FLs film sound like cartoon characters. But I guess for Chinese viewers that's better than listening to film actresses who have strong or the wrong accent.
New about season 2: "Kim Hye Yoon is reportedly in the final stages of talks to join SBS's Good Partner Season 2 as the new female lead, which her agency has confirmed she is reviewing. She is expected to be the new partner for Jang Nara, who is returning, replacing Nam Ji Hyun due to scheduling conflicts. While character details remain private, Kim Hye Yoon is set to portray a new divorce lawyer who grows alongside Jang Nara's character in the second installment.
Not unpopular with me. The writing let the drama down. Fl became this self righteous superior social justice warrior…
They'd have to "discover" an as yet unknown actress with acting talent, charisma, martial arts skills, and a strong build to play a truly believable general. But I liked the idea that the female general in Shadow Love didn't act like a man, looked like a cream puff, yet had earned the respect and loyalty of all those brave men. Imo, casting Song Yi was sending a message.
This has probably been said before, but LITC has proved to me that MDL ratings do not reflect the overall the…
Imo, in historical romance dramas, the FL & ML's chemistry is part and parcel of their acting ability. The job of actors, with the help of directors, is to bring the writers' characters to life. The acting goes hand in hand with the writing. If the acting fails to convince it's either because they lack the requisite chemistry, or because of inconsistencies in the writing.
Unpopular opinion: Shadow Love is far superior in terms of screenplay and acting than Legend of the Female General. I didn't see the "great chemistry" that other viewers did in Female General, but I did see it in Shadow Love. The performances of the leads in Female General were flat, one-note, and unlike the screenplay for Shadow Love, Female General's was no fun at all.

Actually, reading the reviews above, at least those two critics agree with me that Female General was disappointing. The only thing that kept me watching was Zhou Ye's seemingly effortless display of martial arts.
I love dramas with complex, complicated FLs when the actresses playing those roles have the talent and life experiences to make those characters unforgettable. And right now, I can't forget Queen Mantis and need a Go Hyun-jung fix asap.
This drama would've had a better rating if they hadn't saved Queen Mantis's significant appearances until the last few eps. Hard to believe, but a serial killer turns out to be the heart and soul of the show.
Guys i think this drama might be my favorite and most memorable of 2025 . its just their chemistry and the way…
I guess my 10/10 didn't help much. Such a great pairing. Song Yi always has great chemistry with her MLs, but with Ryan Cheng it was extra special perhaps because they were working with an excellent screenplay.
