This won’t change your opinion. Most people are stubborn with their opinion and I do too so I understand. This…
What you said makes a lot of sense and i do agree, it's a rushed ending. However, I am just raising this since you made the comparison between her chasing the ML vs SML. Not trying to change your opinion, but here are my 2 cents from what I understood: 1) there are a lot of ups and downs when she is chasing the SML, many a times she has hope because she knows, for some reason or the other, the SML and SFL couldn't get together in the beginning. 2) throughout it all, she has a stable friendship with CL so she is on good terms with him which justifies her actions, especially when she knows that SFL already has a bf. Even then, she poses and helps him mostly as a friend, none of her actions towards him in the beginning are that of a person with crush. Even her letters have a friendly and sentimental tone rather than that of a love letter. It is only later, when she gives him the movie ticket that there is some overture from her side. Also, she does raise this issue with Tao, what if CL and her can't be friends anymore if she confesses. That had always been her biggest worry, losing her best friends, be it CL or shiyi. 3) Now, when it comes to her feelings for ML, firstly the misunderstanding and him leaving without any explanation is a big dent in their otherwise extremely close friendship. Also, before she is always running into CL who continues to be kind to her, so it's no wonder she continues to chase him (although as i said, she doesn't chase him as a lover, more as a friend. She gives up on CL when he proposes to Lin You and is together with him.) 4) Similarly, she gives up on LSY after all their horrendous misunderstandings with the phone call and picture with Shen Duo. So I would say it is pretty consistent with her character development. She was always insecure and hesitant when it came to matters of her own heart and love. From early on, we see how naive she is when it comes to romantic relationships (like introducing CL and LY, inviting her to study with them, not realising LSY care for her is that of more than a friend etc) 5) The biggest problem I feel, and the reason she did not make any overture towards LSY or chase him, is how he behaved and made her believe when he came back. Like there was literally no need for him to make her believe he has a gf. I don't know why the writers took that decision because it makes the ML look kind of immature even at 27. A lot of their problems could've been solved if that decision was not taken by the writers. I think Xiaoju still took it pretty well, in stride. If it were me and my best friend (who proposed to have feelings for me) just up and left without any explanation and broke all communication for 5 years, and then suddenly turn up in front of me, acting all cold and haughty, I would've smacked him lol. So yeah, Xiaoju and Shiyi both are flawed characters. They've been written that way since the beginning. The idea of Xiaoju chasing him when he makes her believe he has a gf, especially now that she has grown up and is not as naive anymore, has become guarded because of her failures at love, it just doesn't make sense to me.
I would have liked this drama if the ML and FL did not end up together and ended up with some one else. They had…
Oh man, i would be heartbroken if they didn't end up together. No other eventuality is acceptable to me, especially for these characters. I think I have set my expectations taking their age and inexperience into consideration. When I remember how I was during my early 20s , I can empathise with them. Many misunderstandings have occured in my life too because of assumptions and expectations so I was able to relate with a lot of foolish and immature decisions they both took. What i can't explain, even to myself, is why Shiyi decided to do what he did when he came back in the latter episodes. Like there was literally no need to do what he did, how is he still so immature at 27, I don't understand *facepalm*
Lsy has been missing from xxj life for 5 years without any news. When he came back he gave xxj the impression…
Both LSY and XXJ are frustrating characters some time....there have been those instances throughout the drama so I want to say that it's consistent with their character development but ugh... Some of their decisions are indeed frustrating. Especially Shiyi's decisions towards the end.
I kind of feel they have some amount of physical intimacy too. I mean, they have a lot of skinship between them that the FL doesn't have with any of her other friends. In the beginning we see that the ML gets very flustered when the FL gets too close (like their kind of fight/hug and rhe side hug she gives him once) but later there's such a smooth transition into hugs and things like that. So i also got a lot of physical chemistry from them even though they were just supposes to be friends. The FL for example, can't keep her hands off him. She's always holding his arms (even when there is no real need to do so lol) or his clothes. She sits on his lap accidentally and doesn't find it uncomfortable, in fact in one of the later episodes, she continues to sit on his lap even when he's not holding her there, she doesn't even think of getting up. I think this is a very subtle type of characterisation and storytelling.
I really wanna like this drama, it was really interesting at first and I was invested in the characters but I…
It will finish airing all the subbed episodes next week. The slow burn that lasts through the entire series is not everyone's cup of tea, you're right.
I am having a hangover of A River Runs Through It even though 4 episodes are still remaining in it (I already…
Oh yeah, waiting absolutely sucks, especially if it's as addictive a drama as ARRTI. I am a serial binge watcher myself. Cdramas are usually not that good at hooking me in so I don't have a problem in waiting till finishes airing. There are only a handful of Chinese drama I have actually finished watching. But ARRTI is the only cdrama that I have followed as it airs. Aaargh frustrating, but well worth it imo.
This page is still very much alive. When did you watch TLB?? When it was first aired?
You're right, that's why I said teamwork. But what made the biggest impact on me was after Sun's adoptive mother dies. I think that was a turning point in their relationship. Chang Ge was convinced Sun would hate her for indirectly causing his mom's death but man, as soon as Sun woke up, he first thought of Chang Ge and then set out on this journey to reunite with her. That part really impressed me a lot and went a long way in making me love their relationship.

True, I can see why it worked for a lot of people. Unfortunately, didn't work on me. But i still love GeSun's relationship a lot. The amount of loyalty and teamwork that they have is remarkable. Especially the way Sun is willing to go above and beyond to save Chang Ge was truly amazing to watch.
This is one of the very few period cdramas I’ve finished. The OST was just so beautiful, I never skipped the…
The OST is one of the best I've heard this year. So unique and engaging. I loved all the background music for the Eastern Turks and even Sun's theme went a long way in establishing the strength of his character
compared to the other sweet on series this felt bland and to put it simply it was lacking in many ways for me.the…
Thank you, I thought I was the only one who felt 0 chemistry between the leads. I watched the first 2 episodes which iqiyi released on YT and i was waiting for the chemistry to click for me, it never did. Latter clips were also pretty lukewarm. Isn't this supposed to be a romantic drama?
I am having a hangover of A River Runs Through It even though 4 episodes are still remaining in it (I already…
I haven't watched it yet. Currently watching A River Runs Through It which gives me the same vibes as Reply 1988 , lots of similar strengths although in ARRTI, the romance does not take as much of a backseat. It is still driven by nostalgia, friendship, neighborhood and, most importantly, trials and tribulations of youth. I love that drama so much, it's about to finish airing and I'm looking for something similar to cure my hangover of it. Since you said this one too reminds you of Reply 1988, I might give it a go.
Both Huang Jun and Lin You turned out to be very flawed. The two actual romantic relationships in the drama suffered major setbacks. It makes me appreciate the friendship aspect of this drama even more because, by god, no matter what rocky and curvy path Shiyi and Xiaoju go through in their relationship, their trust, care and dependence on each other make for a solid foundation. Even now, with new elements added to their relationship after Shiyi's confession, they're able to maintain their closeness even while employing immature and impulsive tactics to get what each of them want (Xiaoju hurts Shiyi using Cheng Lang's name and Shiyi literally blackmails her into being his pretend girlfriend; even though he's helping her out of a fix at the time....they're both naive and tenacious about what each of them think is right for their relationship.) But throughout it all, there's no doubt about their close friendship. I like that longevity and solidity more than the romantic relationships portrayed in the drama.
Honestly, I Want ShiYi to move on. He can't keep liking a girl who clearly only sees him as a best friend. How…
We're heading towards a plot twist, I can feel it because of what we've seen in the drama trailer. I think he does move on or leaves, because Xiaoju says in a future scene "now it's too late"
