In my opinion, redemption doesn't work like that. Her aunt had already hinted her where to find her match. She might have wanted her to end u with him. So an immortal gifted it to him for Simu to find him and choose him. I believe in this theory. Also he had already said the sword was a gift from previous owner and he also mentioned nothing he said was made up. Hence, I feel like no other explanation is needed.
