I beg to differ. Madam Yu and FTY both want their men to succeed. Madam Yu knew FTY would do everything to increase her son's worth infront of the royal family.
Madam Yu and Grandma had the same ideologies about life. That means FTY grew up with those ideologies. Those were imbedded in her until she saw the cruel side of Madam Yu and her Grandma. When she saw they would do anything for honor and dignity, even kill the whole family of her maid and even kill her and abandon her, she changed her perspective.
If she was not mistreated, she would have grew up to be them.

I believe Fan Yake ruined her image herself and made JingXu dislike her.
Her father's lifetime work is a relic in the entire dynasty. Every scholar and noble man wants to possess them. But she literally thought they were garbage and people were crazy to buy them. With her scheming and overthinking ability, she must know their value (I think the writer screwred up a bit here). Like, even the royals want to have them in their possession.

JingXu is like a bookworm but evil to his core. She knew he loved those books. Even her father knew that; that's why he gave them as her dowry. The first time she tried to sell them, he stopped her and tried to make her understand. But she still sold them the second time. That's when he got to know her true face and fell out of love.

Now he fancies TingYun, not because she is from a prestigious family or because she is pretty. It's when she valued the stories written by the soldiers of the previous dynasty. He saw the contrast of 2 women, raised together in the same household, with the same manners. But one values money more than culture and Knowledge.
Tbh, I believe if they had gotten married as expected, TingYun would not have suffered because their hobbies are both the same.

Also, it was TingYun who framed YuXi. He was just doing his job, but she had to intervene because she didn't like the way he talked. She changed her mind when she herself became a refugee. JingXu is literally doing the same. He hates the fact that some nobody with no origin has an understanding wife, whereas his wife tricked him with so-called innocence.
Hence, YaKe is the problem. From the very beginning.

At this point, his villain origin story is weak. He was always a self-obsessed evil prick.

If there is a season 3, he actually might takeover babylon or Jian would.
