The series is better suited for a grownup/mature audience, not because of any 18+ scenes but rather because of the heartwrenching plot and emotionally heavy dialogues. If you're someone who's looking for fluffy romance and tons of intimate scenes, I'm warning you to stay away from this series. It's not for the weak hearted. I fell in love with this series right from the first episode and it's managed to gain a place in the list of my all-time favourite dramas. This series shall always be an unforgettable experience for me ♥️ Hoping they'll make a new series with these two amazing leads, Pond and Nike, they absolutely delivered a mind-blowing performance ♥️
Some people really want to fit a whole a&& novel in the budget of 12 episodes that are just 20 min long lol.. I loved the series though. Even though it has some shortcomings I believe they did their best with what they had and could afford ♥️ Bai Liang's character felt so personal cause I too have been going through some mental health issues and to me his behaviour didn't feel weird or illogical even for a sec. I believe the actor played the role beautifully. Except for some problematic scenes here and there I was totally satisfied with the rest of the ending and the sweet short stories of the side characters in the background were lovely as well ♥️

Tbh.. to me Yanxi palace seems like a parody of Ruyi's royal love.. they're as different as night and day even though they're based on the same characters and in the same time period.
It was so incredible and so beautiful that it still remains my most fav and the best drama I've ever watched. No other drama, no matter what genre, could ever top this masterpiece ♥️♥️♥️ Ruyi literally slayed with her character and I have no doubts as to why the actress is considered among the top in China. She deserves her title ♥️✨
It seems to be overrated just because the series has some good looking guys and a big budget. The first few episodes felt great but later it just went downhill for me. The only thing that kept me going was definitely Tankhun and his antics 💕 Dropped it before the last 3-4 eps or so.. I might get some hate for my opinion but I had to be honest 🤷🏻♀️
Honestly, the story and cinematography is pretty good but the lead characters just didn't click with me.. they really seemed very awkward to me, especially Kaneda, and I didn't feel like there was any real chemistry between them.. the casting was poor I'd say.. I'd give a thumbs up to everything else though, they took care of every other smallest detail like explaining and portraying what goes into making CGIs .. it didn't seem fake at all👍 Also I loved Yanase, I hope I'll get to see him in another BL with a different actor though ♥️
I'm quite late to reply to your review but I wanna say that I agree with you totally. After watching a dozen or so BLs with sad endings I've finally given up on them. Heck! I've even given up on BLs midway because I heard there would be no happy ending. I started watching and enjoyed BLs for the sole reason that they felt like pure bliss to me ♥️✨ I had never enjoyed hetero romances and relationships to the same extent. If I watch a BL I want it to have a nice happy ending because the LGBTQ+ community has a hard time in our society as it is. People are influenced by dramas and movies, it's necessary that the creators do not overlook this fact. Even I was sceptical of gay relationships before I started watching BLs but then I realised that all the stereotypes about them were so shameful and insulting to them. I changed my mind and became more acceptable toward the LGBTQ+ community ♥️
Currently re-watching and I'll honestly never stop loving this series. It's a masterpiece and really stands out from all other BLs. The intimate scenes are close to none but the couples will still make your heart flutter like crazy ♥️ Love u Adachi & Kurosawa ♥️🥺✨
