That's why I was worried when they showed the dream arc longer and longer because I knew the immortal arc would suffer. It was a blip in the novel but the director could not let go of the filmed battle scenes probably coz of the cost and the effort. I mean loved the battle sequence and some scenes in that arc but they could have been edited without any detriment to the story overall. 😮‍💨
And yes Si Ying is a baddie. I was pissed when they killed her off and introduced that spider demon who lead the demon army to war. That should have been glorious SY.
The novel was not perfect obviously, but there are sequences that just made more sense without going into trite tropey TV territory. *unintended alliteration 🤣*

Exactly! Novel fans were saying how the author must have thrown the book at her TV after they butchered GYJW's character. He was the best senior to LSS. Di Mian wasn't bad in the novel, too. In fact, he gave LSS the coolest/strongest fighting artifact.
SY and JM also did not die in the novel and instead became nannies of 👧.
