I am thinking they didn't know how to create dissent between TTJ and YXW since they are already lovey dovey. It could be loosely based on the novel events but changed as per drama so far. I am making this up as I type but here goes:
B collaborated with TTML to make it seem like Grandma was kidnapped. Thus YXW goes to rescue her. PYZ will get XL out of prison. They stumble across each other. However, TTJ's insecurity kicks in thinking YXW still loves XL so she broke him out of prison. Because of his abandonment issues, he activates the puppet spell he secretly put on YXW(remember he makes betrayal contingencies like with his caretaker). YWX kills XL and this finally causes the real rift between them. Isn't this a little better?!
