Personally, I thought it was an open ending because even if TTJ's mortal body died, his essense was encapsulated in the Heart Guarding Scale as seen in that shimmering scene with him smiling. In xianxia, even a bit of essence can be cultivated and eventually take solid form. Thus, he will have the chance of meeting LSS and A Mi after hundreds of years.
P.S. In the novel, he was reincarnated after 1000 years and eventually did reunite with his family.

After the mortal arc, there is still the immortal arc. You can see TTJ and LSS' growth there. To be honest, there are really beautiful moments but this drama is very angsty. It is worth finishing but prepare your heart and more tissues. *hugs* 💕
