not best friend, may be they bond eventually when Masaki steps in as Shouta's father. seems like Moe also bonded with Shouta in future. Moe seems good person even now.
if Masaki is biological dad, he clearly wants to be with them, if he is not the dad, he still seems to be there for them. in latest episode he was clearly touched while taking care for Shouta. may be taking care of him made him wanna be family with Mirai and Shouta

Yano seems too flawless. usually this type is second lead because they're unrealistically perfect.
Masaki seems more realistic. He lets out his frustration, at the same time he's caring, kind. Like a normal human being. usually these types end up with FL. also he's more involved with Mirai and Shouta now that he knows about Shouta. he was insisting on Shouta being his child so much, it seems he still loves Mirai.
I bet his backstory will be revealed soon, why he didn't clear up Mirai's misunderstanding and why he doesn't want to be a parent
after 4 episodes my predictions are 1. Yano is probably the biological father who left them. 2. Yuta is only teacher.…

Both Shouta and Masaki like banana which can mean Shouta adapted this habit from Masaki. 3. Shouta keeps calling Moe (Masaki's present gf) Mirai's friend which can mean they actually become friends in future. 4. Masaki and Mirai obviously have a deeper connection and history.
