Mun-do has a different surname than the Grandfather. I think there are three generations at play. 1st Gen: Grandfather…
Yes Mundo has different sir name due to Mundo's mother was married to "Choi". Additionally, Mundo's mother is the same generation as Se Gye's grandfather , could be blood sibling or cousin because Mundo is addressing Se Gye's grandfather as "Uncle" ... Hence, logically speaking, that two must be in different generation despite of the age gap ... Then We really need an explanation to why Se Gye is calling Mundo as "Cousin" but not "Uncle".

Yes Mundo logically is an uncle to Segye, generation wise. But he is hardly few years elder to him, that's why…
May be... Why they make things complicated LOL Or is it more on the korean cultural context...

Is it not distant relative, instead of cousin?? :)And maybe because they are close in age so calling him uncle…
If I am not mistaken, at the one that I am watching, the subtitle stated as "distant cousin" ... May be the translation could be wrong...

Cha Se Gye calls Cha Dal Su "Grandfather" and Choi Mun Do calls Cha Dal Su "Uncle" that makes Choi Mun Do is "Uncle" to Cha Se Gye logically... But why now "Distant Cousin"? I am confusing...
