Gwansik was trying to save his business by agreeing to stand in for Daechi and was jailed for 5 years. But his family lived with Grandpa and family for 10 years. That meant his debts were paid off by Daechi but his business still failed because he had to serve 5 years of jail. To date, he has been working for Grandpa.
Honest to goodness, if I were Gwansik, I would rather be declared a bankrupt. Otherwise, I would be assisting Daechi from taking responsibility for sending Gyeol's dad to an early death. I will have to carry this heavy burden of guilt until my death.... I can't do it.

That is quite a long wait. Do you think Seungri will begin a revenge plot on Daechi and possibly Kangsu Construction? She is very devoted to her father. If she did, then the story will make a sharp turn and become really intense. My cup of tea... 😁
In the last few seconds of episode 79, Seungri found out that Gwansik was jailed 25 years ago for causing Gyeol's father to die in a traffic accident. She will later discover that her father was jailed to cover up for Daechi as the driver. I think she will plot a revenge on Daechi by first marrying Minho. The story is becoming intense and intriguing. 👍😁

I have just watched Gold Land. It was addictive and gripping. Acting of all the cast was very good. Some commenters wrote that the pace was slow at times but I did not find it slow because I do not expect the pace of any thriller to be fast at all times. It is just not possible to sustain a fast pace all the time.
THE DRAMA My jaw dropped when Woogy told Heeju to take the gun from the glove compartment for her own protection and instead of being grateful, Heeju pointed the gun at Woogy and forced him out of the car.
Why did the Writer have Heeju betrayed Woogy and then have Woogy reunited with Heeju in her mansion in France?
I don't think Woogy was in cahoots with the Cambodian because the latter was asking the bakery owner if he had seen a short Asian woman.
The ending of the Cambodian guy watching Heeju and Woogy is a hint that there will be season two.
Earlier, I thought Gwansik might be responsible for Gyeol's father death in the car accident. He did appear guilty especially at the columbarium on his death anniversary.
More importantly, why are Gwansik's wife and children in the dark that he was in prison for 5 years? When Seungri questioned her mum, episodes ago, about her father being absent for 5 years when she was a little girl - her mum replied that he was working overseas! She did not seem to be lying.
So Gwansik's wife would have known that he had a solid alibi during the car accident. Hence, a lie was made up that he was posted to work overseas for 5 years - to KEEP HER SILENCE.
Yong Man told Gyeol in this episode that all he knew was "a speeding car" overtook Gyeol's father's car. I think the driver of the "speeding car" could be Daechi.
Gwansik's business failed so Daechi could have offered Gwansik a large sum of money to lie that he was the driver. Grandpa is an upright person but I cannot be sure if he knew about the stunt that Daechi pulled.
That could be why Daechi seemed intimidated by Gwansik from time to time.
