I get where you're coming from and I want to see ManMan prove it to Wei Shao too because hey, I don't mind some more lovin but I get why she built that tunnel. It has only been a year. In today's day and age, women see their value in whatever stage of life they're in whether they're still single, married, divorced, single parent, etc. However, women those days, didn't matter how smart or pretty you were, eventually, you're never going to be enough to keep your husband and lose out to a concubine who's younger and more ruthless. ManMan was preparing for the worst. If she was going to give away her freedom and happiness in this marriage alliance, at least make sure the benefits will last for a long time for the Qiaos and that's what she achieved. It's sad that it hurt the Weis and then in time, hurt the Qiaos now that Wei Shao loves her but she didn't expect all that.

She meticulously coordinated the deer hunt, trained her younger brother to support Wei Shao's canal plans putting her in a tough spot again between Wei and Qiao. A lot of her deeds for him are home or family related, so it often gets excused for "her duty" or she's doing it for her clan, but that's not true. Like Wei Shao said, if she was only thinking about the Qiaos, she would've found so many easy ways to sabotage the Weis. A wife solely for a marriage alliance with no love wouldn't act this way or achieve this much. E Huang is an example of marriage alliance, not ManMan.

ManMan wasn't using BZ. ManMan knows that Da Qiao's family approval is very important to her because why wouldn't it be? Her family loves and spoils her like crazy. That's why ManMan told BZ to take Da Qiao away and she'll help him climb the ranks later and that's what she did. She advised them to go to Boya and there, they found an opportunity to become something versus a horse guy forever. Sure, a simple life sounds good but not isolation. In Boya, Da Qiao can have both worlds, a simple life and her family's approval. Like BZ said to her, they could live anywhere but it's always safer to live in their own land.

Without ManMan, Wei Shao would've still clashed with the other states no matter what in that warring era. However, without ManMan, Wei Shao may have appeared stronger with a military backing in the beginning but eventually weaken because he would've married girls like Zheng Shu would've corrupted and dumbed down his power in Wei. Wei Shao alone can't guard against all those enemies who plotted against him in Wei.
