A Surprisingly Well-Rounded Cdrama
Honestly, for an idol drama, this series certainly exceeded my expectations! From the acting and the senior cast to the plot and overall production, everything felt very well put together.
That said, I do think it fell a little short in the romance department. And by that I don’t mean the chemistry between the leads or the way their love story was portrayed throughout the drama. If anything, their relationship felt almost too realistic and heavy at times. I just wish we had been given more sweet and lighthearted moments between them. The honeymoon phase was cut short, and the final arc was filled with so much hardship and angst that we were left with only about half an episode to redeem their romance properly.
Still, I appreciated that there weren’t any major plot holes and that everything was ultimately tied up nicely by the end.
Another thing that made this cdrama stand out to me was that the writing wasn’t solely focused on the leads. Many of the supporting characters were given genuine depth and complexity, which made the world feel much more fleshed out and complete. Characters like Madam Yu, Fan Ke and several others in the supporting cast truly shone and left a noticeable impact in their respective roles. It was refreshing to see the story give them enough substance to feel like more than just plot devices.
Lastly, I absolutely loved how the drama concluded! It’s wise to know when to advance and when to retreat, indeed. ML saw his chance and took it and honestly, he was very wise to do so!
Overall, while I would have loved a little more sweetness and romance between the leads, I think the drama did a lot of things well. Strong performances, solid writing, well-developed supporting characters and a satisfying ending made this a very worthwhile watch.
