There weren't something like in the book but they added a lot of meaningful details in the series that something like this would be outstanding addition to strength bond for Pharan and Khem. So as far as I understand from the novel, he does make money from his shaman job, such as solving people's ghost problems, selling enchanted items, cleansing people/homes/belongings and people pay for those things. Folks from the village or close settlements come to Pharan for help but one thing that did confuse me in the novel it looks like Pharan is quite wealthy. He gave a pretty expensive gift to Khem when he graduated, so as one of the comments said he must have inherited something from his family.

In the show Khem is 20, Peem is 29 however in the books Khem was 19 and Peem was early 30s.
