Totally agree with your comment. The big events that change the story don’t even happen until ep 26- and then episode 33 really just puts everything in perspective for what’s happened so far.

Big turning points happen after episode 26. With this show it’s actually hard to understand where the story is going until you stick with it for that long. It’s after the entire show ends that you get to understand why it’s so highly rated. It’s the whole journey, rather than individual episodes that matter at the end

He was always a soldier and he didn’t want to just die being weak and ill. He wanted to help the country and wanted to do something where he was useful again- where he felt he’d die doing what he wanted to do. It was an honourable way to die

Both are great for entirely different reasons.

If you like political intrigue, schemes, intelligent plots, combined with a character’s search for justice and vindication- go for NIF. It is idealistic, poetic and philosophical. Also isn’t very easy to understand immediately, so you need to pay attention to it. I can’t say it’s a drama you can really binge watch. Also the fantasy elements are fewer- it’s wuxia.

The Untamed is a brilliant high fantasy story. There’s magic and if you’re not familiar with xianxia as a genre, you’ll have to learn what cultivation is. However I think the Untamed is full of soooo many different kinds of love. It’s also got a lot of mystery solving. It has very interesting and nuanced characters.

I wouldn’t say either of the shows are high on action. They both have action in small doses but when there is action, the stakes are high. Both have great stories.

Both made me cry endlessly and I couldn’t get over them. NIF is a better production overall- in terms of how it’s made, but although the Untamed has a lower budget, it’s still amazing.

They’re very different genres by the way. So if you don’t like fantasy, go for NIF. If you like fantasy, go for both shows. I’d start with the Untamed because it’s less complex. Also, expect to be confused and not so invested in the Untamed for about the first 11 episodes. They seem weird at first but after 30 or so episodes, you’ll understand why those initial episodes were important

Agreed. This was my main problem with the show. Also couldn’t stand the scene where Lord Bo nearly assaults her. He wasn’t really going to do it but it’s still abusive. And the worst part was she tried to apologise for it. Those scenes served no purpose in my opinion and only made me feel alienated from the lead couple. Xiao Zhan’s character was way more likeable but I didn’t like how his story ended either.

There are scenes that show pure love - love that transcends any sort of physical love. As for romantic scenes like kissing and stuff, I think it would be totally out of place in a drama like this, where there's so much intense political stuff going on.

It’s good. Very funny in parts and quite delightful. Not without its problems, but the good overweighs the bad. I’d suggest giving it a go

I feel like people get put off by the last 2 episodes of this drama, not because they’re bad, but because we’re not used to seeing the protagonist “fail”. Even though Yu Huai wasn’t a failure by any means, he was not better off than we saw him in the beginning. But this didn’t come out from nowhere. There are hints of this throughout the drama. I think it’s a very bittersweet ending and it is natural. For anyone that has not done as well as they would have liked in life, this is a relatable aspect. For those that think she should’ve been with Lu Xing He, remember that she never loved him in that way. I love the ending and think that even though it’s not exactly happy, there is some hope.

I’d also like to say that things really start taking a turn from episode 26 onwards, so I’d watch until about episode 33 before deciding to give up.

Agree with ShortCircuit’s comment. It takes about 10 to 15 episodes to kick off. However it’s not like those episodes are a waste. They form the basis of our connection with the world and the characters, and you’ll see that as the show progresses. They might look boring right now, but they’ll make the whole drama more fulfilling when you finish the whole thing. I think the untamed is one of those shows that is great when watched in its entirety. It is like a journey.

Nope, no love triangle because the FL and ML only love each other. There are others who fall in love with the FL but that doesn’t make any problems for the couple. No second female lead ruining the relationships of the leads either.

Agreed. It deserves way more than 8.6. But then so many dramas that don’t deserve high ratings get high ratings on mdl 🤷‍♀️

I thought the FL is naive and that’s why she acts that way - and as you watch more of the show you’ll understand why I call her naive.
Interesting you felt that the voice didn’t match his speaking. That’s Xiao Zhan’s own voice - he dubbed himself - but I guess this is the first time he’d done it.
