As YHJ has said, ZBF is ruthless. IMO he's not only ruthless, but totally heartless. #1 He gave away his sweetheart for whatever reason justifiable to himself. #2 if MSD hasn't turn up, i believe he will carry out his threat to kill the monks and burn the temple if need to.

I won't consider him a totally bad guy. He's not a villain but will definitely not hesitate to kill /get rid of any obstacles so as to get what he wants (as seen in #18). He's too blindsided by his aim to gain glory and fame for his sect.
As i was sneaking a peek at finale, i felt it strange that it was still ongoing after wrapping up with villains and kins, and the wedding rites and expected some twists ahead... True enough! But what was that for?! If there's ever a S2, hope they increase the budget enough to give ML a better looking hair wig!
