Especially the mother, she's blinded by the reputation she has to uphold and she doesn't trully care about the truth, as long as the people don't gossip about her familly, which is inevitable.She's also blinded by the common patriarchal values, which is not trully her fault since she was raised that way, which has made her to throw away qingyu's clothers that are considered "flashy" , so she couldn't capture the attention of men, she has forbit qingyu to develop friendships with male individuals and she even resorted to physical violence when her daughter choosed to speak up(i'm not going to mention beiyu). She isn't evil, but a person who is afraid of the judgemental society. This is not an excuse about her actions, but we can't, as the audience, just say "i hate her".
