Whatever closure or redemption they tried to create for her didn't really parse. I guess we can blame this on the scriptwriter. Maybe they were trying to parallel his story with the mother and son pair who died in this arc.

Yeah. Maybe if they showed her new husband abandoning her or something and she regretted what she did to her first son then it might be more convincing.

I think they tried to put a positive spin on her actions but it doesn't work with the narrative. It was clear she wanted a new life with her new family and the money helped with that.
