I haven't read the anwsers before replying to you, so my response may be repetitive. But why based your judgment…
I was answering to Random123. Though I've written a long essay thinking I was answering to him/her ............Damn haha.
I'll not put everything: Of course almost all BL are created for women but the question here is: What isn't created for a category of person? What isn't fantasized? Romantic comedy? Action? Supernatural? Horror? Thriller? "Almost everything" is unrealistic when we're talking about drama.
As a woman I can't identify myself in most of the romantic comedy stories and for my bf, when he watch that kind of drama, that make him laugh so hard at the male protagonist. Everyone should keep in mind that these stories are fiction and don't represent the reality.
Same goes with shoujo stories where the male protagonists are always so dreamy/handsome/perfect or ecchi stories where girls are sexy/beautiful. Will any of us hunt those fictional characters because they don't represent us in reality? No of course. I'm not the target of hentai/ecchi stories and men aren't the target of shoujo stories. There are exceptions but quite a few.
Though I can understand LGBT community wants realistic stories, like us women would want some realistic heterosexual stories sometimes, but that's not for that reason that BL drama /BL stories should be point at something bad or be looked down on. It pleases its target : mostly women and maybe men that would want something cute or sexy.
Two things to keep in mind : first is - those LGBT- stories are quite a new subject. In a lot of countries, it's still taboo to speak about it. So the authors, mostly women (living in Asia) don't know anything about LGBT relationships or a little bit. They wrote that kind of stories to emancipate themselves/their characters from the burden of being a woman (pure, naive, calm, kind-hearted). So to summarize, It will take time to treat the subject and get more realistic stories adapted :) Though there is a genre that exists for LGBT, it's called "bara".
The problem for me is that people sometimes can't distinguish the reality from fiction. Not fujoshi, just naive people. Like the ones that go to Korea to find a man like in kdrama...They fantasize and it's a burden for the LGBT community. I don't know how this can be solve ...Educate people, but that will be hard where homosesuality isn't well accepted/ discussed.
All this talk about boy love has completely put me off wanting to try this as that's just not something I'd enjoy…
I haven't read the anwsers before replying to you, so my response may be repetitive. But why based your judgment on comments. I quite not understand how you can be that easily influenced. Just read the summary and watch the trailer, It would give a better view on the drama.
I'd like to point too that it's not because the romance is between men that the quality is less enjoyable than a "Nirvana on fire". Surely not. Maybe you're just biased from the start and that's the problem here.
Now about "us" commenting about boy's love in the comments section is totally a normal thing :o If it was a heterosexual relationship, we would speak about how handsome the main lead is, how cute the girl is and how they'd be good to see them tgt in real life (if there's some chemistry). So of course we'd like to talk about how handsome those men fighting in amazing clothes are. BUT if the rating was all about BL (boy's love) + handsome men, why there is only one with the rating 9.4? There are plenty of BL nowadays, though most of them are low rated because even fujoshi (BL lovers) can be objective.
This drama is just one of the best I've ever seen, not because it's BL, just that the feeling, the story, the scenery, the characters are magnificient and if you go to my page you'll see that I rate the BL quite low and some heterosexual romance pretty high (Healer, that's ok it's love, reply 1988) or no romance (the guest, live on mars).
* Though if you are prejudiced against LGBT community, better to avoid it (even if there's no skinship/ no kisses just bromance). Have a nice day.
Does someone know if there is a group, page, forum or any other method where us, fans, can talk and is active? I have some difficulties to find some mutuals (as whipped as me xD) whom I can speak to have some funny discussions/ share info about our cp. Any tips/ recommendations are welcomed ^^
Well Almost the same...Though I don't have Weibo but starting to learn Chinese and seeking for news everywhere everyday (and being happy all by myself haha). It's been more than one month and I'm still whipped for the untamed and can't watch other drama or series... I even listen to C-music now :o But I'm so damn happy to come across this drama and the main actors :)
Well it's really difficult (in my case though) to make my friends interested in Chinese drama (even the Chinese themselves!). Even my fujo friend doesn't seem to be interested. I'm so frustrated lol...Any tips to make my friend understand they're missing a masterpiece? xD
since untamed popularity skyrocketed i see there are new watchers who bears no clue of chinese genres leading…
Alex is totally right. I didn't even know any of the genres/terms before watching the untamed and It wasn't so hard to understand. People just need to be patient because it's quite new for most of us, and wait few episodes to understand it fully (or look for info on internet if they're curious). It's the same for any new things you'll try out in life, like sport for exemple. You won't understand if at first try. I'm watching/reading all sort of fantasy stuff from Asian drama/manga to Western novels/serie and I'm really confused at the "flaws" part? You mean the drama isn't perfect? Well would any be perfect one day lol? Please tell me :p But if you're talking about the Xianxia genre, I don't understand.
Wow Thanks Alice! It was my first time watching a Xianxian drama (only watched Chinese rom-com before) and your explanation helps me a lot :) I really love the genre, it's so unique :) I'm used to Korean/Japanese/Thai drama more and never seen a fantasy world so beautifully written and amazingly adapted in live action. Now I think I'm pretty addicted to the genre haha. I hope they'll adapt other Xuanhuan, Xianxia and Wuxia BL (but maybe I'm dreaming xD)
