I know i’ve said this earlier, but i’ll say it again. I really love the setting and cinematography of this series.. I love ancient chinese setting but i’ve grown so tired of flawless looking actors, wearing flawless costumes, on CG filled scene.
This series does the word costume in costume drama justice. The dirty, unwashed, ragged clothing that lower class people wear, to the beautiful but realistic gowns that the ladies wear.
And the city setting, my god, its definitely one of the best. Everytime they walk through the narrow alleys with dirty walls around, or when they walk through the damp and cramped city streets. It really takes me back to how it might be back then.
Oh, and the dialogue. I cant remember when was the last time i actually watch c-drama costume series where the scriptwrtting is actually feels real. c-drama dialogues, especially ancient ones, are always so exaggerated. The way this drama was written is so natural, it just added to that sense of realism
Each time i finish an eps, i always imagine how it would feel like living there back then.

Really love the setting of this series. Feels “real”, if that make sense. The dirty narrow streets with moss filled walls, non exaggerated script, I’d imagine these these are what real ancient china would look like back in the day. I wish there were more dramas like this

You should try reading the new novel. It’s (only) 2400+ chapters long, with luck, you should be able to finish it by the time the drama gets released hahaha

Thanks for mentioning you are my hero. I watched the whole damn thing in 2 days. Hahaha. Do you have any other recommendations for light dramas like this? No uber mean, no love, triangle, just chill, slice of life romance. I would prefer no government propaganda stuff, but i can always skip those if the rest are goo.
In the novel, han li is described as very average looking, with darker, tanned skin. This is one change in novel im not complaining about.
Another thing about this novel is, 98% ML centric, fully xianxia intrigue and action.
Romance is barely an afterthought. FML literally disappear fr hundreds of chapters at times and on the second part of the novel not showing at all until over a thousand chapters passed. But i fully expect with all xianxia dramas, they will shoehorn some unecessary romances.
I just hope they will get the intrigues and actions right. The novel is literal legend in the community
