served what it promised. not overly excited for the next season but i will be on the lookout for it. 8/10 to my…
Exactly, idk what people were expecting because I think the only way to enjoy it was to view it as it is, i.e. a very shoujo-esque YA romance with a sprinkle of power of friendship and emotionally immature and absurd decisions abound. Honestly, this feels like a time machine to the Y2K and early 2010's media. I love it for taking me back to that time in my life where I would dream of a larger than life love and of makin family-like friendship.
The concept is relatively new. Plot was captivating and perfectly balanced between politics, rights, and love.…
As a non chinese english subber could you please maybe expand on the dialogue that added to depth? I'm currently into linguistics and CN novel space and I love reading about these things too especially concerning dramas and media I consume!!
I think the biggest barrier was the age gap, both in universe and irl. That combined with this being early in…
I agree, I find the way historical kdramas function completely in the mold of real history fascinating and in a way telling of the importance of historical accuracy, well maintained legacy and preservation of heritage in their culture but coming from someone who's country is well known for taking creative license to make stories entertaining, I'd rather have that because it serves as a nice jumping off point rather than strictly following history something that even a textbook could do.
I was expecting more courtroom drama, with the protagonist defending powerless people. There were a few cases…
Definitely had a lot of potential in various ways, I would've loved for them to stick to either oknyeo exploring various social stations as she uncovers her identity and uses the skills learnt from the prisoners or the interveaving yet complicated relations of all the characters or as you said about korean legal system but I think that's ratings influences drama writing, the pressure to entertain remains a burden on good writing
rewatched this drama after so many years!I still think the ml should've been the king or seong jihun not yun taewon…
I think the biggest barrier was the age gap, both in universe and irl. That combined with this being early in Jin Se Yeon's career may have made it awkward for both the actors to create chemistry, they each held their own in their respective focus scenes but came tumbling down together. The middle patch where Yun Tae Won, Go Soo's character was becoming corrupt was wonderful. Would've loved for the show going in that direction but maybe it would be too much creative liberty for a show that mostly managed to stick to reality with important historical figures and their endings.
If this drama were to be evaluated by a professional critic, I'm sure it would not score very well, but I enjoyed…
I couldn't agree with you more!!
There's a feeling of recent dramas being almost "polished to perfection", sanding away even the realistic flaw and endearing quirks that older dramas leaned into. Still, I'm glad to have watched this drama and to have a catalogue of many more older dramas and hidden gems I have yet to discover. This show inspired me to keep hoping instead of dwelling on losses afterall!
For once I'm happy to have been spoiled for the ending cause I wouldn't have liked the other ending the writers seemed to have planned out for us, 10/10 had fun but the actual rating for the drama may differ
