it was explained at the first (or second) episode by Ruo Yu - it's not related with the mask, it was first trip "abroad" for Sifeng as he was pretty young (16y.o.) and he needed some time to adapt to the new language dialect.
I think it was made to emphasize youth and innocence of the character at the beginning, as well as make their scenes with XJ more cute)

Started after lot of superb comments, I'm on ep. 15 and I can not accept romance between these two....oh, gosh... it's really weird....

I read somewhere that the actors were busy with another project. I don't believe for 100%, but it might be the reason.

I wasn't hooked by 1st episode, good cinematography yes, but I'm not in love with the characters as of now, very ordinary. Let's see, it's just a pilot!
