Shiro, I love your writing. Keep these great articles coming. I have dropped dramas for many of the reasons you listed. I would also add that sometimes I have dropped a drama because I can’t handle the heartbreak of one of the characters, often the second ml. I dropped True Beauty because I loved Hwang In Youp’s character and knew he wouldn’t get the girl. I’ve avoided Start Up for that reason. I managed to finish She was Pretty, but I cried buckets for Choi Si Won’s character. I also dropped 2521 before the end.
I've re-watched Go Ho’s Starry Night a few times as well! It's a quick watch and has all the best fluff....…
You are so right. It has all the feels. And this is my favorite role of Kim Young Kwang. That stare, that swagger and then the vulnerable moments thrown in. Plus, as you said he’s gorgeous. Happy rewatching.
Great article, Shiro. I love your description of Full Fridge syndrome! I usually rewatch things guaranteed to lift my mood. My staple is Go Ho’s Starry Night. I love the reverse harem. After all, a girl’s gotta have choices, ha ha. I should probably start a Plan to Rewatch list, because there are some shows I’d like to rewatch, but I have to be in the right mood. Goblin and Extraordinary You come to mind.
Thank you for your great article. Lost in translation for me is “City of Streamer.” I did hear one commentator say the title was closer to “City of Flowing Light,” which is at least more poetic.
My pet peeves: 1. Inappropriate work attire usually for the women. I can watch a series set in a business environment and the men will be in gorgeous tailored suits and our female lead shows up for work in shorts or some other street wear. 2. Drunk scenes where one character confesses or puts the moves on the object of their affections. Besides being cringey, you know they’re not going to remember the next day. This trope stopped being funny a long time ago.
Wow! I really enjoyed this awesome, beautifully presented article. I haven’t watched many Thai dramas because they are often hard for me to find with English subs, but now I will have to start searching since you have provided some intriguing recommendations. Thank you!
Thank you for two great articles. I’m glad to see Doctor John on your list, it is the perfect fusion of music and story. Shorter Web dramas have also upped their game regarding soundtracks. Park Won’s score and songs, most notably Rumor and Play, add to the mood of the atmospheric drama “My Fuxx Romance,” and have made it into my playlist. I find OST’s a great way to discover artists that I haven’t heard before.
