I feel it’s like… like in the movie, after the fact he regretted that he didn’t let the brothers switch their strings, but if he let them he would have later regretted that he did that too. It’s just how human nature is like, I guess.
It’s a tough situation, as you said “gray” there’s really no good solution.

Anyway, the other Navy captain (Lee MinKi) was especially moving/heartbreaking since we can see that he has a wife, and later there’s even photograph of his child, and yet he was so strong and disciplined and sacrificed himself. (Generally, I cried at the submarine scenes, best scenes in the movie…)

From what I understand they all went to the separate smaller chamber of the submarine and had the oxygen pumped out for the rest of the crew (they willingly went to suffocate in an extra room - they mention the name of that part of the submarine in the movie, firstly the officials said that a wall of that room collapsed and that’s why that part of the crew died (which raised suspicion, as to why would so many people go to that one room all at once etc.), but they just wanted to cover up what actually happened on the submarine - so that the remaining crew can survive off of the oxygen they still had until the rescuers came.)

Also I’m pretty sure that if they just exited the ship their bodies would be crushed or they’d suffer fatal internal damage etc due to pressure at that many meters under water and the difference with the pressure inside the ship (also if they made an opening in the ship, that part would have been crushed kinda like a can as well and could endanger the rest of the crew).

I might be wrong though, idk.

All the stuff happening in the submarine, so so emotional and stimulating scenes, really good (but stressful, or moving or sad…). The Captain saying that no soldier that came back, came back whole - that line stuck with me. And Lee Jong Suk having that breakdown/sociopathic awakening in front of the doctor.

The movie as a whole is nothing that very special, I mean, movies of similar quality were made in the past and they will be made in the future - I liked it though, it delivered what I expected of it (I didn’t expect too much or too little), so I had a good time watching.
[The premise and the theme (the submarine stuff, navy and bombs reacting to sound etc) is interesting and unique though, I haven’t seen other Korean movies with the same topics in their plot lines.]
But the scenes, individually, were really good (the acting was mostly really good too), especially:

I wish that the police later found Taeshik’s body off the coast, and then they’d run a DNA test to confirm his identity (since no one would recognize the body, and it’d have been very damaged by seawater anyway, at that point).
Taeshik at 12 definitely had at least one blood test done, and since he has a family etc. he’d be more cared for in those matters I guess, and his records would have been more likely to be accessible (easier that any of Sung Min’s).
So they’d match the DNA (of course, such things do not happen that quickly but after some time) of that 20-something year old man with the DNA of the (from what they knew) 12 year old missing/presumed dead boy, and the police detective would have kind of a “wait a minute, wait a minute…🤨” moment while remembering Soo Rin’s story, and then the let’s say, half-realization (since it’s an unconventional and hard-to-believe story still) would hit him/the people.

A closure of some kind, a justification, for poor Sung Min who lost at least 30 years of his life and for Soo Rin who didn’t want to lie.

It’s kinda hard, having to watch movies like this in glasses, because you can’t wipe your tears properly when you cry…

Presumably they survived because Sungmin dragged them to the shore when the time stopped for him.

Well, I like such songs so to each their own, but the thing is, they use the same song over and over (so it’s tiring) and the lyrics don’t fit a lot of the situations when it plays, so it’s just very awkward. I guess they could have just used the instrumental of that song (if they really had to use that song only) for most of those scenes and it’d have been better.

He’s naturally very skinny though, so he looks normal after the weight gain, not even buff just healthy (still lean). But I agree that some actors just don’t look good after gaining so much muscle for a role.

To be honest, they’re all pretty good actors but I think they simply would not have done as good as Hong Kyung in this movie.

Something happened, idk, and now I’m just watching Kang Dong Won movies one after another.

I really liked this one, and although it has some supposedly a bit cliché moments, they were done in a rather non-cliché way.
I can’t really say more about it… just, it’s a good movie, heartwarming and not boring too, and I recommend it.

Also! I really liked the music in this movie, it wasn’t like, super special but it somehow was memorable for me and it made for a very pleasant experience along with the movie itself.

Isn’t he like the main character? Without him there would not be any second season…

Nah, I just like the more realistic portrayal.
A peck on the lips can be considered a more serious kiss in a youthful/pure romance high school drama, but in a rom-com or melodrama etc involving older teenagers, young adults or adults? It’s just underwhelming and awkward (especially if the plot “hypes it up” beforehand as THE kiss scene).

I mean, they’re both popular and good actors.
I’m glad that we can share views on this drama.

Most of those alleged messages are fine, I mean that’s how most men talk with women on dating apps or chats (it’s not necessarily classy or nice - that’s true, most women I know don’t like it but it’s not abnormal, a lot of fans have higher standards for their faves but at the end of the day he’s just a man like any other), and whether this woman here likes it or not should be their private case and she should resolve it herself (she could just ignore his messages, or share them with friends or something- to ask for advice or vent, not publicize it like this and make ‘a scandal out of it’), it’s not that scandalous.

But apparently (and here I am relying on someone else’s translation and report of this, - possible paraphrase and some mistranslations, I guess - as I do not speak Korean) in one of the messages the sender (allegedly Lee Yi Kyung) says that he’d let this woman be r*ped/he’d have this woman be r*ped by four other Korean men.
And that part, well, it is controversial.

(Lee Yi Kyung’s agency has denied those allegations - that these chats are real - so far and threatened legal action against rumors)
