True, but another reason I assume the modern Hong Jo is not a descendant of the Joseon Hong Jo, is because according to the story, Shin Yu's ancestor (possibly the Joseon Shin Yu) killed Aengcho. If Aengcho was his shaman girl (Joseon Hong Jo) then she must've been unmarried when she died.

Yeah, remember in Ep 1 the modern Hong Jo saw an ancient female statue and a woman's voice "What took you so long to come here?" So it's not about that woman's descendant but reincarnation.

I thought at first Hong Jo is the descendant of Aengcho. But when I think again, shamans way back then might stay unmarried because in that society shamans are lowest class (forbidden by Confucianism). So the modern Hong Jo, the reincarnation of the Joseon Hong Jo finally arrives, thus she is the owner of the book.

Now I wonder who Joseon Hong Jo actually was. I thought at first she was a real descendant of shamans.

Aengchu could also be the old Joseon lady. When those guys dropped the baby at her home, the place was full with shamanic ribbons etc. So she herself was a shaman.

I have a feeling that the one who put the curse was the Joseon Shaman lady who adopted the Joseon Hong Jo. Because the curse has to be done in hatred and resentment. It doesn't seem Joseon Hong Jo is a hateful type. But the adopted mom, out of anger that her adopted daughter died, might curse the Jang family.
