I watched first ep yesterday becaus eI also like ML. So she is reborn couple times over and over...It reminds…
I think we might have misunderstood each other šŸ™‚ When I said ā€˜pretty painless to watch’ I meant it’s actually very easy to watch, no heavy emotions or frustration. Sorry if it sounded negative! Ancient Bracelet is still my favorite though, the couple there is on another level šŸ”„

This drama really reminds me of Dominion and Devotion. The whole fake-eunuch trope, plus that constant undercurrent of sadness and melancholy that’s pretty much in every scene.
Both actresses absolutely nail the cross-dressing role. There’s a real depth to both series that most mini-dramas just don’t have. I’m really hoping the ending won’t be as mentally crushing as Dominion and Devotion was… fingers crossed.
But damn, what a strong start.

Is the villain Yun Mo?
We don’t know that for sure yet, but it’s hard to imagine it being anyone else unless there’s some unexpected plot twist.

Ancient Bracelet is better and has a way more electrifying couple, but this drama is also pretty painless to watch.
From the newer ones, I recommend Shall We Dance. It probably has the most depth out of these three dramas (yes, it has that childhood friends-to-lovers trope that many people hate, but in this story it actually has some psychological justification and it’s even quite touching). Plus the main leads are excellent. Completely fresh, unfamiliar faces who don’t just look good but can actually act.

It’s not bad in my opinion, but it’s not exactly memorable either.
The fact that FL has to piece the truth together herself while everyone hides it from her does get frustrating. By now she’s been reborn three times already, and each "new" life comes with more knowledge about the secrets everyone else is keeping. The main villain is also pretty obvious from early on. Still, the acting is solid, even if there’s no real sizzling chemistry between the leads.
Visually the drama is gorgeous and the male lead in particular is extremely good-looking. I've really liked this actor ever since "Grab Your Love".

If she saw him massacre her clan , is there a lot of misunderstandings and hurt ?
No, there isn’t really a lot of heavy misunderstandings or deep hurt here.
This drama keeps a lighthearted, almost comedic tone the whole time, so you won’t find any truly painful scenes or frustrating, drawn-out miscommunications. Even when the FL and ML are temporarily on ā€œenemyā€ terms, it’s mostly playful bickering and funny teasing rather than real hatred or resentment. Overall, it’s just a fun, breezy watch with zero emotional trauma, perfect for relaxing viewing.

I finished all aired eps now without blinking. Its too good! šŸ”„
Nice to see you here! 😊 This drama is such a hidden gem. Everything just clicks. Whether the main couple is kissing or fighting, they look absolutely amazing on screen. I really hope we’ll get to see this actor as ML more often from now on. The FL is super charming too.

So far this show has actually been a lot better than I was expecting. The plot is moving along at a decent pace…
I agree. There have been FLs with much more squeaky, ear-grating voices than this one.

Great chemistry between ML and FL. Lots of sweet, romantic scenes with the couple. FL is a bit childish and has that baby-like voice, but the actress manages to make her character more adorable than annoying. So far, so good.

omg, no kidding. I know that fl actress has a penchant for playing such murky characters and now I think ml is…
Unfortunately, something really didn’t work for me here. I didn’t like a single character in this drama and I wasn’t rooting for anyone. For my taste the characters were way too extravagant and perverse, but in a completely unappealing way. Everyone felt like the titular Sharp Blade in the Snow, too cold, too heartless to ever take their side. For me characters can have a broken moral compass as long as the actor manages to make that fate-crushed person believable and compelling through their performance. In this drama that just didn’t happen. And then there’s the ending, which raises way more questions than it answers. It’s been a long time since any drama left me this confused after watching it.

Title Half-Awake Spoiler
I’d say this is a fairly typical ML for dramas with a sadomasochistic or dark-romance vibe. These shows are…
The sister also seems mean and ready to pull some nasty shit on FL. She only cares about seducing ML. And the fact that ML favors the younger sister and treats her so well just makes him even more vile toward FL. For her own good, FL should cut ties with both of them.

From the trailer, it seems he’s going to try to redeem himself and make up for all the shit he did to FL. She won’t forgive him easily, which is completely understandable. ML will probably feel resentful that she continues to hold a grudge against him 😬 It always amuses me how in so many Chinese dramas the bad guys wear glasses, and the moment they take them off they suddenly become gentle and somehow instantly turn into soft boys. I just hope his redemption arc here is more than just ā€œI stopped wearing my evil framesā€ šŸ˜‚ Even if this couple ends up together in the finale, it still won’t feel like a truly happy ending for them.

FL is supposed to flirt with these men, seduce them, and put up with their groping and touching, but not actually sleep with them. When she was ready to sleep with that aggressive CEO in order to save her friend and test how much she meant to ML, he stepped in and beat the man badly. ML wants to have complete control over her, and she can belong only to him. To everyone else she’s allowed to be nothing more than an unattainable object of desire.
Either way, ML is a disgusting character.

This is one of the strangest dramas I’ve ever watched, and the ending was weird too. It was really hard to sympathize with any of the characters. Everyone was seriously twisted, depraved, and morally warped. SML’s performance particularly stood out. He was absolutely terrifying with that baby face of his while playing someone obsessively in love with the female lead.

Title Half-Awake
ML is the reddest flag I've ever seen in a drama. It's the reddest of the reddest. Is there a level higher than…
I’d say this is a fairly typical ML for dramas with a sadomasochistic or dark-romance vibe. These shows are full of toxic, possessive, violent obsessives. This ML actually reminds me of the husband from The Silent Wife or Pei Cong Zhi from the costume drama Once Upon a Dream, where the male lead went as far as extreme violence against the FL.
You can tell after just a few episodes that this is a story mainly for fans of the genre. Everyone else will probably just feel uncomfortable or disgusted. Especially since there’s a high chance the ML will eventually be ā€œredeemedā€ in the FL’s eyes and they’ll end up as a harmonious couple in the finale.
That doesn’t necessarily mean the screenwriter hates women. More likely, the author is fully aware that dark, spicy stories like this are popular and have a large, loyal audience. At the same time, such dramas can still be socially harmful, as they often package unhealthy relationship dynamics in an attractive form. Ironically enough, in this case the scriptwriter is actually a woman.

Title Glory in Shadows Spoiler
That useless ā€œseparationā€ at the end got on my nerves because… what was the point? We didn’t really see…
It’s definitely a happy ending. They end up together in the final minute of the show. They don’t split earlier because of a stupid misunderstanding, some big fight, or that classic ā€œI’m leaving you for your own goodā€ nonsense. FL just needs to leave to recover from serious trauma and bloodshed, find herself again and become truly independent. ML respects her choice. That said, it’s probably also a standard Cdrama move designed to frustrate the audience and make the ride a little less pleasant.

That temporary separation, when the FL leaves the general in the final minutes of the drama, annoyed me as well. They could have skipped it, but at the same time it fit her strong character and was somewhat justified, considering the last two episodes, which were intense and crazy. The final scene, when she shoots an arrow toward the ML, was a nice culmination of their story.

Not a short drama I would recommend for the ending alone. But then you have a second half that is not as good…
Another issue is the complete lack of chemistry between the FL and ML. There was way more spark between FL and SML.

Title To Kill a Songbird Spoiler
Is it a sad ending?
The ending is poetic, metaphorical, and fits the dark tone of the entire drama. Personally, however, I prefer a classic happy ending without ambiguities or guesswork. At its core, it was a simple story of revenge, but in my opinion, they unnecessarily complicated it, probably wanting to add some philosophical depth. Despite these reservations, it's quite a successful mini-production.
