The monk hasn't been given much screen time until recent episodes and I'm sure the writer is going to go more…
My frustration has to do with technical aspects of the script.
In the first part, the problem was with directing, but it was covered up by the beautiful and breathtaking cinematography plus the editing / montage.
In the second part that everything needs to be solved, we get to see more openly that the script has issues. There is not momentum. I don't see the curve. If you saw Episode 10, then you knew that this would happen in Episode 11.
Where is the element of surprise? I don't feel the climax coming smoothly. This is a heavy political sageuk and we have a "fantasy" plot twist that you know who is going to act and against whom.
I also don't like that Queen Dowager became a caricature - tyrant to be as well. So, in order this plot twist to make sense the audience wish Siwol to be ...the wicked monk? It is too obvious for my liking if they go that way.
I am also frustrated because I don't see performances from the actors and actresses, but that has to do with directing. I have commented on that one before...
So, a monk who is supposed to be the reincarnation of Buddha Maitreya is praying / cursing / scheming against a human being and I should accept this as a solid plot twist... No thank you...
All characters are gray here. Gye Won is also gray from start to finish (most likely). Set the show in times of…
Why should I take as true Park's words?
In case you have forgotten he was manipulating Queen Dowager for years.
It is okay to like him.
Strategically speaking, Lee Tae tried to find an ally in Jo Won Pyo. He has none, except his Eunuch.
His daughter is not worthy to be the Queen. The way she treats people is disgusting. She has no honor or dignity. She does not want even to learn the Palace protocol / etiquette .
She is abusing her servants, calling them animals.
No, I won't have sympathy for her, nor her Father. He protected his daughter and left Queen Dowager to go down by herself.

Grey characters are shady and tricky. We need to understand that, we - the audience - can understand them, but not white wash them.
All of them are wrong for what they did.
Park wanted to depose the Queen for his own agenda. They made her kill herself to save her son. The previous King was unable to save his Queen and let Park to blame his daughter in law's clan in order to save the officials. It was all said by Lady Park herself.
Who was right or wrong. It is crystal clear.
At least, Lee Tae saved his wife as he was taught by his Father and Mother.
Also, we are trying to decode what happened in another Era through our lenses who are from another time, i. e. Today. Historically speaking the comparison cannot be valid. We truly don't know how they lived their lives. We can have an idea if we have read History on that specific era of that specific Kingdom with their genealogies and customs.
While no one comments about it, the directing has issues. The first 8 episodes had no character development. Suddenly everything changes in the second half.
The jakkanim has made Lee Tae so lamentable as a king , that Lee Joon cannot do much to overcome this crying figure that cries in every single chance! This is something requested by the director!
The only character that is solid is Lady Park. Yes, she is a wise person, yes she should be the Ruler herself. Yes, she is very competent. I understand that. All we have...
Counsilor Park / Jang Hyuk has awakened, but I don't like that little by little his character became "grey". He killed innocent people. He is bad. They are trying to white wash him by telling us he is an idealist. Let us remember how many "idealists" did harm to the others around them...
It is okay to be amazed by the Cinematography / photography and montage / editing, but technically speaking there are issues with the script and the directing.
No, it is not you. I have a problem with Lee Joon's wet eyes. This is a directional advice that I don't like because it is draging for so long . I am waiting patiently to see how it will go...
The last minutes gave Counselor Park a stroke... Lady Yoo is very brave. At least, she told him by herself and he didn't find out from that traitor in the bamboo village...
Seriously? Where are the Admins to stop all these people who are attacking others!?
MDL is a website that we are writing about shows and plots / scripts, about good or bad acting, about good or bad directing. There are some RULES that we are all following because this is a place we are ALL GUESTS!.! We may agree that we disagree on how we are thinking about something, but I haven't seen such a havoc before!

I understand his reason for the uprise, but not what he did afterwards...
What is truly their difference?
The one was a tyrant who killed hundreds and the other an official...

Lady Yoo is the MVP of the episode 8!
Let's hope things will change. If not, I know who to blame! Not him obviously...
I am going to watch Ep. 8 later.
Let's hope they will set him free. He definitely has talent!
