That's the part that got to me. She lived her life in service of her family despite being in a loveless marriage and the writers decided she couldn't possibly want a loving partner anymore. This man gave her direction, encouragement and even offered her his liver. He also gave her husband a much needed jolt from time to time. I don't know what the rationale behind this sort of ending was. She doesn't need a man but she deserved to be loved and as you said "get taken care of" for a change.

Just started watching. I'm on ep 1 and wondering why the publisher guy let his girlfriend break up with him when he had a ring in his pocket knowing that's what she wanted? I kept waiting for him to propose but instead he gave her medicine. Sweet but not what she needed at that moment. Did he really not love her?
